Yes! Until I started cutting at this place I seldom got to cut the nice size, straight stuff. Really appreciate it. Chief
Ok sorry, another day. But I know most of you are like me and love pics of wood cut. The cleaning lady came and I got ran out of the house, so went to "my" woods. Another beautiful March day. Being a college educated Botanist, I'm embarrassed to say I don't know what this is. I will know more when I split it. It was dead standing. I think it is either some kind of Hickory, like Pignut, or some kind of Oak, like Chestnut oak. Splitting will tell more. Anyway some good stuff and a gorgeous day, 38 degrees and sun shining. Chief
Beautiful place, man!!!!! I do believe that is Ash, looks like it from the bark and light color of the wood itself.
Well, I thought Ash too, at first, but the cut wood has a reddish color to it. When I split it I'll know for sure. Thanks, Chief
Pics aren't good. But it definitely isn't sassafras. I know that tree very well. I haven't split it yet, but when I do, I'll know more. If it has Oak medullary rays then Oak. Ash split is distinctive. Let you all know. Chief
