I've been a moderator, admin, and VP of a couple forums and clubs with forums.

Too easily someone takes it too far with political stuff. It goes bad very quickly. It's not a matter of if, but when.

I always bring up the point on any forum, that we are on that particular forum as we have similar interests. We'll never agree on everything, so let's keep the stuff we agree on and keep it light.

I think it's refreshing that we don't allow political talk here.

This was the "proudest" moment of my whole soapbox speech yesterday. I drew a lot of good passionate responses out of some of you and made some folk's heads ache. Most of all Screwloose, it worked your testosterone up to the boiling point where you finally had enough. You'd been lurking there since 200 members but it took my STIRRING THE POT to pluck you out of the woodwork and help you find your voice. Sitting around here just playing suffleboard hadn't been able to do it. So glad you spoke up!

You guys have the blinders on thinking you have politics under control. A real activist could hit us hard now with all kinds of complaints and actions to really make our heads spin. Radical folks could be complaining about Confederate flags, Washington Redskins photos, sexist remarks, Cleveland Browns support.........well ok, the Browns is stretching it. They could even start up their own Wanted: Good Man/Woman ad for gay/lesbian partners building up pages of funny mildly salacious bantering that you could not touch, the official die has been cast. (my brother's gay and married to a great Chinese guy so no problems here). Your kids will be reading about "burning my buddies wood last night" or "playing with the kitten this morning" even more than they do now. Remember, politics just decided to fine some bakers $125,000 for refusing to bake a particular cake. You can bury your heads in the sand behind the walls of our "protected" site trying to keep politics out. I choose to live in the real world and deal with it openly and straight up.

Grandmothers, my mom, and a few wives have scolded me my whole life to "put the lid back on that and quit stirring it up". Never listened to them and I'm not about to start now.

Follow up: I see now that my favorite reply of all has been deleted. You know, when the member brought in the fire hose to "calm things down". That was classic ......... glad I made a copy of that. That did have a grown-up word though, they're going to have to fix that one up for "public" use.;)

Well RCBS, if I understand the rules correctly, I can solicit up to 100 members to a private conversation where I can copy the grown-up worded "calm down" posting!  Don't remember who posted it, but it was classic!

Only here. This is our happy place, free from all the bullchit of modern living.....for the most part.
If I wanted to hear folks arguing politics, I can watch the news. This isn't the place for it, and hasn't been since it's inception. No surprises.
Agreed on the "grown-up" word. It's funny though, that when I was a kid of about 9-10, we used "grown-up" words all the time when out with our buddies.
Not allowed when we got home.:hair:
The world is a funny place, and full of incongruities.

Being a member of several forums...I have seen this trend ebb & flow before. I find myself favoring moderation vs t-total...but this is not my website.

    Great! This is just great!

Not only are my two favorite cigar sites experiencing problems with orders and shipping for about a month now, then there's this.

Here is a simple solution to the problem................Have the site owners establish a "Ignore" key on EVERY post. That way if someone doesn't care for the post or the poster they simply have to punch the "Ignore" key and be not subjected to what they deem not suitable to them. A armchair version of " if I don't like the movie, I get up and walk out." Too simple....................
