This morning was the third day in a row that I got up before 5AM and headed out the bush before sun rise to cut some farwood. I went out so early to get as much done as I could before it got hot. Wednesday was 100*F and Thursday 93*F Today it was fantastic. It was overcast in the morning and a slight breeze to keep the bugs at bay. 65*F. I was all loaded up and climbed in to my ute (truck) when the sun broke trough the clouds making for a pleasant drive down the ridge. Photos or it didn't happen! Having a lunch break now, soon I will have to go out and unload. It's warming up now the clouds have gone currently 83*F Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Awesome! I love the smell of eucalyptus. Is there any worry of poisonous snakes or vampire wallabies?
Poisonous snakes yes! We have the worst in the world. You have to keep an eye out for them. No vampire wallabies but we do have kamikaze wallabies, that's why I have a Roo bar on my ute and a serious amount of auxiliary lighting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have to watch for rattle snakes and copperheads but I would be a little shaken with the wicked snakes you guys have to deal with.
Everything looked top notch there. Some nice saws. nice trailer, nice truck and some nice wood and trees to cut. Those eucalyptus can sure get tall and is some pretty tough wood. Nice haul.
Na, Coca-Cola cold from the Engel fridge. No beer yet I still have splitting to do, and it was only 10AM when I climbed in to the ute. A little early for beer even in Australia. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Same here in Missouri. We have the rattlers, copper heads and the lovely water moccasins. Not to mention the spiders.
Great payload! Now Im going to have to ask a rather forboding question to you. What is the eucalyptus wood burned for? Besides heat ive heard that the burning of it is likely to produce this residue thats almost like burnt sugar. Glassy and darn near impossible to remove. But Im also going to gather you have some way of combating that or is it a non-issue where you are Down Under? I've personally never burned it but Ive seen photos so I had to ask... hope it burns well for ya.
I hate spiders and it scared the S#!Г out of me. I usually keep a huge kobalt hammer close by for such occasions, but I took a picture before it turned to mush.
It burns great in fact we usually don't bother with any of the introduced species of trees here. What you maybe thinking of is the sap that is in it. It is quite sticky and the reason eucalyptus are called gum trees here. It will pool in any void in the wood and when it drys it takes on the appearance of dark hard toffee. Yes, these guys don't even look poisonous. 2nd deadliest snake in the world apparently. Eastern brown snake. I know Steve Irwin showed these a bit when he had his show. Here's more of the poisonous snakes in Oz Australia's 10 most dangerous snakes That death adder sounds particularly nasty.
Well that's a good explanation as any! I just figure that stuff has to make a mess in the flue so I guess its hard to figure out how that gets cleaned out but if you just strictly burn outdoors i cant see how that gives you a problem.
