I have to admit that I don't understand why people on this forum appear to be drawn to little, short bar saws. I am NOT knocking it mind you so please don't take offense to each their own. If you have a lot-o-tops like from a logging site or a larger up in a tree saw, maybe the occasional "tough roast beef"......... I get it. I have arthritis bad and the last thing I like is bending over (I'm self employed so I do enough of that for Uncle Sam). With your left arm straight try a saw that just clears the ground without bending over, for me that's a 28" bar I run on a 80cc head. I tend to cut on the top front of the nose a lot letting the saws reaction cancel it's weight. I rarely have the head by the action if I'm not burying the bar as I like to keep it outa the crap.
Somehow I think I might get it for this so I'll stop now

Voicing your opinion and being open to the views of others is what sets this site apart from others of similar content-I've had searches lead me to the "other" forums and ridicule/criticism appears rampant on some---That doesn't happen here, so I doubt seriously "you'll get it"---We agree to disagree here all the time, we just keep it civil, right Backwoods Savage ?

Yes I do have a screwloose haha. My wife and daughter picked that name, they SAY because I mostly use a screwsplitter.....But I'm not so sure.
I do have a cs3000,360t and 355t for one handed use (I'm to fat and sore to climb anymore) but the bending over is one reason why I use bigger saws. Also I had depression era parents so we only had one saw when I started sawing and it had to do everything.

Keep in mind that bar length is just one piece of the equation. Saw weight can mean a whole lot when a person has a terrible back problem and it can take a little bigger saw than some want to handle to run a 28" bar. Shoot, I used to run a 36" bar regularly and think nothing of it. Not that way today though.

Screwloose personally I agree with ya... 461 with 28 inch bar is fast becoming my favorite drop and limb tree saw.. saw is well balanced and no bending over.. especially on pine trees,

I can relate to that as I can't do what I used to do a couple of years ago.......ra sucks. I have a back condition also but I can stand and hold weight but tying my shoes..... I want to cry..
Honestly I was just making a observation of a trend that I saw not judging anyone's Choices.

All this sidetracking I caused aside, do you have a dealer that you would like to support ? Been going to the same one all my life. Can I save a few bucks occasionally elsewhere ????.....Sure !! Does elsewhere say well don't expect warranty on any parts you modify on your new saw haha, might hafta sendum back but don't worry about the rest......heck no !! Kind of nice for them to tell you the truth also not just what you want to hear. If they are good they will help you decide. Now I want to make it clear that I hate when people use a dealer as a touch and feel teach me what I need to know to go online shopping place.

I am short so a dolmar 6100 with a 24" is a rocking combo for me. I very seldom ever cut much over 40" oak or hickory so not much need for a larger saw. But grabbing a big saw sure is fun at times. Lol

    `The bulk of my cutting is 16" and down , I have ported 026's , 034 , 2171 , 394 plus some 361's and a 660 , cs330 , the 241 is my go to saw with a 14" 3/8" picco and 6t .
A top handle is not a real good choice for limbing because of kick back and the rotational force .
I've cut a lot of trees with my 241 , they might be small trees, but a lot is not an exaggeration .

I'd absolutely go 241. If the MS241 and 543xp had been out in 2012 when I bought my 550xp there's a good chance I would have went for one of the 40cc saws. A pound of weight over the course of a day is a big deal IMO.

And I'd run a 14" bar on it instead of the 16", just to make it that much lighter and compact. I'd even consider a 12". I run a 13" on my 550xp and I don't think I'll ever throw the 18" on there again. To me it's much easier on my bad back to carry a light nimble saw and bend at the knees vs using a heavy saw with a long bar and have to bend my neck all day looking down.

I refrained from even going into mentioning the top handle saws originally as the geometry does lend itself to less leverage and control let alone the fact that the left hand if unsupervised has a habit of getting in harm's way. People have different experience and skill levels then factor in complacency or overconfidence.......

The 241 is a nice saw but it is hard for me to justify for the reasons above.

I have to say I agree. It was like that for awhile with the 024 and 026 back in the day. When I was running a ROW clearing crew I ended up with more 026's for that reason. However, the groundies always went for the 024's first. It didn't matter to them if the saws cut faster.

I can see that if you have knee's that bend and if I'm not looking down I'd be falling down.
