Been a busy few days - stove and liner installed Friday, picked up a splitter this morning. Had to test it out.

DHT 22 ton. $899 minus 5% for Lowes card. Debated on this vs. Ariens 22 ton, but price difference was too hard to justify.

Ya I was looking at those the other day. They look well built. I have the ariens 22 ton and there hasn't been a log I couldn't split, though I did have a hydro problem the second time I used it. No problems since though

That should do nicely. Hydraulics rock.

I think that is what Pallet Pete has and it is a good splitter to own. Good for you and congratulations.

My buddy and I share that exact model.

Make sure you run it dry before storing like the manual says.

That POS plastic carburetor is a PITA to work on. Especially when it's zero outside.

I have the same splitter with the log catcher been a wonderful machine. Picture is me making some smoking wood for a buddy. I just Crack the pieces for him and leave it as a whole chunk. Then he can take his hatchet and knock off what he wants. Disclaimer I normally split vertical with crate lol. 20150523_185916.jpg

Well Blazing you had me til vertical---thought you had it going on the way its supposed to be split...Anywho-thats my biggest complaint about my Cub splitter, the log catchers are too narrow-wonder if those would fit on mine? Prob need to do research or design my own-have a couple buddies who are welders...

It's a real simple design you see the two bolts on top it's the same for the bottom just two straight through the beam. I use it horizontal so long as the rounds aren't over 50 pounds or so. I tried it without the log catcher the first day and absolutely not. This is typical size I get so I roll and flop in the vertical position. 20151025_161944.jpg

I will concede there is a tipping point...pun intended, but you are too young to allow it be 50 lbs...the upper body workout alone makes it worthwhile,,,if you are able---not that there's anything wrong with it... I doubt they will fit without alteration, I also like the looks of the ones on TimberWolves...prob just fabricate my own as mine are totally inadequate to maximize splitting

I've got to the point that I didn't have the time to continue only handsplitting...and my backlog of rounds was growing.

Already ordered the log cradle. The work area just absolutely needs it unless you have 3 hands (one to hold one split, one to hold other and another to operate the lever). Definitely looking forward to the cradle.

Congrats on the splitter. Highly suggest running ethanol free gas at all times, regardless of how often or not you run it. Check the gibs once in a while if you see some slop as it travels. You will love it. :dex:

Trust me I've done bull work all my life started working construction with dad long before most had to worry about washing clothes. Grew up working farms as well for extra cash picking tobacco and pulling weeds. Trust me you don't want to pick it up if you can roll it. You have a perfect platform to bolt or weld a larger catcher on with what you already have now which is a big plus.

Great score! I can't even imagine not having hydraulics to split wood.

I wouldn't worry about running non ethanol gas. Just run it dry when you are going to put it out of service due a number of months and you'll be just fine. We've been on e10 pretty much exclusively for over 20 years and it's not been an issue, in any internal combustion engine.
