Yeah, my parents up north got hammered with nearly a foot of snow. As you can see, it wasn't much here. We were right on the edge of the snow, and we got a lot of rain. On my drive home from work on Friday, you could tell it was icing up. The front facing parts of my car were covered with a sheet of ice.
OK here's today's progress. I'm not done like I was hoping I would be today. While it was much nicer out today than yesterday, the wind today still sucked. Err blew that is. Also after busting my butt yesterday, today was a bit more work. And what's left. There's a few of those bigass 3 ft long half split trunk pieces of elm, the big gnarly honey locust right up front, some Norway maple, and white pine, along with a few more elm mega rounds My estimate once I fill in the empty spots will be 5 cords, and there may be more than that. We'll see one I get the rest done.
I'm reading this and laughing my azz off to the amount of wood this has rocked your casbah, sequentially.
I asked for it, and I'm gladly dealing with it. I've got cords as well at the wood lot that I need to get to my house and put into my woodshed that is merely a vision at the moment.
I wouldn't cut or take elm without a hydraulic logsplitter. The old didier splitter handles the elm just fine. I'm amazed that the elm has several splits that pop like maple or oak. I've had more issues with the gnarly honey locust than this elm. Note the only issue with this elm is that the rounds, or half rounds as some are, are still VERY heavy. Leaving the splitter low as it is, with no riser blocks for the wheels helps so I can simply flop the halves onto the beam, find half way or so and split it to get the weight down on the chunks so they are more easily handled. Two 80 lb chunks are easier to deal with than one @ 160 lbs.
Absolutely. Looks like I'll jump back in to CSS'ing Sunday. I'm going to the Milwaukee Auto show this weekend. We're supposed to get 3-5" of snow tomorrow. We'll see, but I've got a couple of gallons of gas for either the snowblower or splitter use.
Horkn buddy you are killing it! And there is definitely some gnarly looking work there ahead of you...I emptied part of my uglies bin yesterday and immediately recalled the blessing of hydraulics...keep posting those pics my friend and great job and congrats on the workout too! Enjoy the show
Here we go again.... I contacted another tree service in town and they have this pile to take from for free. I'm told it's all Hardwoods. I'll go there, with my trailer, take home a trailer full, and the guy told me to tell him what I'll take in addition, and he'll load up a dump trailer and deliver it for free to my house. I'll only search out primo stuff, like locust, oak, sugar maple and hickory. I'll steer clear of ash, I don't want to bring any of that here, EAB is seemingly losing ground, and I don't want to help it any.
