Mackinac Bridge Closed ST. IGNACE, Mich The Mackinac Bridge Authority has closed the five mile span linking the two peninsulas in Michigan. Falling ice from cables and towers are creating dangerous conditions on the bridge. It closed as of 9:37 a.m. Monday. Stay tuned to Upper Michigan's Source for the latest on the bridge conditions.
Must've gone over our limit of trolls last weekend for the outhouse classic in Trenary! outhouse-classic
Occasionally it does but not a lot. Sometimes they will make the big rigs drive slow (usually 25 mph) and have small campers drive along side of them to use the trucks as a wind break. The worst I've seen it was one night in the month of November when the winds were clocked at 85 mph. No, I was not interested in crossing. It was amazing just how bad the noise was from the wind then. Then about 6 hours later the wind was calm. We crossed with no problems. In addition, it had warmed a lot (50 degrees if I remember right) so there wasn't even any snow or ice to contend with. btw, November sometimes can be the worst month.
Quite a few years ago they were bringing a duplex of some sort over the bridge in Cornwall, On (Massena, NY). In two pieces on two trucks. The wind blew one half of the house off the truck's trailer and it was smashed into a lot of pieces when it fell to the water below. Must of been a bummer to only get half your house delivered. The bridge was closed for a while until they got it cleaned up. Trucker probably had to clean his undies.
Taking anything over that bridge is an adventure... The wind rarely stops. Heck even a 10 mph wind will jitter your jiblets...... Years ago there was a ugo car ( very small car ) that blew over the side then a few winters ago a friend I later worked with was going about 5mph and entered literally right before the no trucks was issued...... Needless to say they had to pull him upright again.
I think that case with the Yugo car was finally classified as suicide. In any case, that had to be a terrible fall as it is a long ways down.
I had not heard that! I think it was a girl coming back for break from college? Poor dear, no matter what the reason.
