About six inches here. Really drops off fast the farther east you go.

Elm's good like that. It doesn't split easy, typically, and it doesn't rot well either.

Unless you go north, even just a little.

Then it goes from 5" to 10" of snow pretty quickly.

We only got about 2", just as the forecasters predicted. Where my wood lot is, there is about 5", and that's just a little bit north of here, but further west. 15 miles from my house. In the northwoods of Wisconsin, they got nearly a foot of snow.

I'm shocked they didn't get the snow up there.

Caffeine going in, today I will be setting a relaxing pace and getting multiple things done. I would like to use the 3550 to do some clean up work but we got a decent amount of rain yesterday so I think I will wait for it to dry out a bit. My wife wants me to build her some type of a boot jack, and a short standing platform to use to get on and off the horses. And I need to get back at cleaning the garage. I have about 95% of that done from before.

Made some peanut butter cookies for my son and my father in law, then went out and split some elm that I bucked yesterday. Just like Horkn said, splitting elm is a joy :)

Whenever I feel a little cocky and bit full of myself I go grab the maul and split some elm. :) Heck even the 6" branches sent my maul bouncing.

Heck, I might as well. I was on the way down with the andes candies truck to see if Horkn needed any help with the free wood and he posts how well he's doing so I just turned around!

Guess I could turn around one more time and head for Iowa's Clear Lake area (?) before I leave the autobahn and have to ask for directions! I'll stop by Menards and pick up some....you know!

Sounds great...turn right at Clear Lake, and don't forget to honk as you drive by Grizzly Adam.

When you're at Menards pick up something that will fix my house.

Here is a little sample. Working on finishing out the knee wall at the back entry. Have a face plate cut and ready to cover up the open block end at the doorway (no they didn't use block with finished ends) and starting to finish off the top with of the wall.

Square to the door opening, the framed wall is out of square 3/4" in 2'!

I'm thinking you should look for some dynamite at Menards, probably the quickest fix ...it's next to the bird seed aisle. :)

Currently warming myself up by the boiler. Worked outside all day today. Spent about three hours building my wife a two sided stepping platform for getting up on the horses. I wanted it real strong and stable for them so I pulled a Scotty Overkill on it. All old pressure treated wood I salvaged and re-used for the base layer, then 2x6 Amish lumber scraps from the barn build for the rest. Ya. I needed the tractor with the forks to move it where she wanted it! Then had some fun with the tractor this afternoon.

I'm trying to get these pieces of firewood dried out near the boiler. Hey. Somebody has to do it!

This weekend was too short and I'm too tired. My back is feeling those 24" hedge rounds I picked up into the trailer yesterday...Gonna put some bourbon on it later.
