I probably would have never caught the price reduction before they went out of stock if not for exchanging it. So including my birthday money, I really spent $130 minus taxes and fluids. Let's see if this ones a keeper.
sometimes if you bring your reciept they will pay you back the difference. I did it once with something that dropped $100 the week after I bought it. and they gave me the difference.
I'd eyeball those welds on this one closely...see if there is any preventative measures needed...of course that could cause warranty issues too, so maybe that's a bad idea.
I thought about it voiding the warranty too. If I knew those wedge welds were the only weak point on the machine, I'd have it security-welded without question and move on. I wouldn't want to give them an excuse to not honor the warranty, though. On the other hand, if I could prevent the machine's one possible glaring flaw, it would make sense rather than fix it after it's broken again. Decisions decisions...
I'd have it welded up before it breaks, throw a rattle can shot of paint and call it good. If something else breaks I doubt they would give you grief over a weld job. They probably wouldn't notice it anyway.
Well that worked out good. I would have bought a few at that price. You can't get a 5 ton elec. for that kind of money. Even if the weld is an issue it's easy to add a bead around the wedge.
My 5 ton electric cost more. However I can't have a gas engine splitter in the den so I'm good with my 5 ton. I'd pick one up at that price just because. And I already have a 27 ton DHT. Be great for some scrounges. Split on site!
I was thinking the same thing...I know someone that would be interested in one so I looked these up, none available at any SC within 100 miles
Even though there were 3 left in the store, none were showing online around here, either. I would suggest a phone call to the actual store.
Hmm, they just must not be in the local stores here...I looked that number up on their site and got "no results found" so I called the store and got the same answer. It does come up under "Sam's Club Auctions"...whatever that is
Had a chance to check one of the local SC stores for myself last night...not a splitter in sight. Hows this one holdin up for you Brad38 ?
Sorry to hear they didn't have any around you. The exchanged splitter is still sitting unassembled in the box. I'm waiting on someone to take the beam and security weld the wedge on the beam. They probably won't have time for a week or two. I'll post something here once I'm up and running.
That's one hell of a price for that splitter.........I just bounced around online a little bit and it's well over $500. Chit if I see that in my local Sam's club it's going in the cart......! Busting for a splitter although I enjoy swinging the axe!
