Unbelievable, 77F (current temp; sister said she saw 81F) in the middle of February. I decided to take a look around the property; noticed a few trees down across the entrance of the access road on top of the hill that borders the neighbour's property. Walked out to the other end and found a good size forked oak (must have been cut way back when) had fallen across the road. It's mine now; the bottom section is across the property line but not much. I remember hearing a noise during one of the bad storms and now I know what it was. I will have to wait for The Beast to come home before I can tackle this tree. I can drive the tractor all the way to the tree once I clear the ones at the entrance. Hopefully I can get the poplar as well but it is logged in the fork of a tree.

Thanks, it is all hills. Planning on opening a road at the bottom for other things on the hill, me likes carrying wood the shortest distance possible.

very cool pics and looks like a fun project. be safe too, some blow down trees can have unseen stress on em, and jump when cut.

Yes, I was going around today looking at the fells and such; want to get them before they decay. Then I will look for sick trees to take out and get more sunshine in for others to grow.

Love those Virginia woods!!! Spent some time bicycling in the Shenandoah Valley and along the VA-WV line. Thought we may like to retire there but I think the land prices may keep us out.

    Wait for cooler weather
Too hot there to cut wood

Maybe " The Beast" will bring cooler weather with it

Here is the base of the tree. Could have fallen either way; I am happy that it fell on my side so I can get the firewood.

We are absolutely getting hammered with high winds here in south central Pa. Sustained 30's and gusts in the 50's.

It was calm here this morning but then the winds started to blow, a bit on the gusty side but nothing like what we had a few days ago.

We had that the other day, and into today. Today was much worse than yesterday wind wise. It was a both hands on the steering wheel of the 4runner day on my 200 drive back south to home.

Yes, go get all of that wood Kimberly!

Lorry driver forced off of a bridge in Virginia by high winds; he later died in hospital; those were some scary winds.

It was an articulated lorry; not sure if the whole thing went in or not. They airlifted him out of the water but he later died in hospital. Sad.
