So if Harman didnt make stoves what would you go with? Brand and model please. As a non harman owner I am just curious as to what everyone thinks of the other brands out there. EDIT or would you switch to a different mode of heating?

I would have bought a Quadrafire classic bay 1200 if Harman didn't exist. I also liked the Winslow 40 something or other.

Hopefully my p43 gets another 10 years or so, at which point I will replace it and my wood burning fireplace insert with the then-current model fancy pants Harman pellet insert.

I have no idea. I had an Englander before the Harman. and while I can't rule out a different model, Harman's are the only stoves I looked at when I was ready to upgrade.

I replaced my englander 25ep with my Harman after about 4 months, a great stove, but I will never go back to a lower end stove.

Because my install is in a corner I'm very limited on stove choices, I'm happy with my Ravelli, other options would be St. Croix Element, Quad Sante Fe, Castle Serenity, Enviro Mini, Jamestown J 1000. My place heats easy so no matter the stove I wouldn't push it hard so I could never see spending 4k on a stove when a 1700.00 dollar stove does what I need and it's still top quality.

My St.Croix Hastings has been keeping my whole house warm on the 2 ( out of 5 ) setting for 10 years now. I will buy another one if I have to. I like the cast iron look also.

well said! every stove in the market has its own niche, and since as pellet burners our needs may not all be the same, we all dont fit into that same niche, be it Harman, Englander, etc

Not now, after previously burning 1,200 - 1,500 gal. #2 fuel oil a season .. And still being cold in the winter.

We've only been burning pellets for 2 seasons now, but in that short time (if my Pellets & Beer riddled math is correct) we will have displaced burning approx. 3,575 gals. of #2 fuel oil, at the end of this '16-'17 season. That's huge. And we're warmer. Pellets win.

    * I like everyone's stove choices above - save me a seat on that plane flying South LW, I'll buy the 1st round of Smoothies. :drunk:

If I hadn't owned a Harman, I could have answered question about what other stove, but now that I have one, I have to say that the next best stove would be a wood stove. Other pellet stove just don't seem to put out the heat like the p68. Note, that is my opinion based on my very limited experience, prejudiced, and narrow minded thinking. In other words, what ever works for you, that is good.

If Fahrenheit didn't exist, or if I didn't want a whole house heat source, based off what I've seen here and what I know in real life, I'd probably lean towards Enviro.

The local Harman dealer I stopped at years ago before I even owned a stove gave me the 'if you don't buy my product you're stupid' speech when he asked what else I was looking at (which at the time was Quadrafire). I don't care for that sales tactic, and it left a bad taste in my mouth for Harman, or at least that particular Harman dealer. That dealer went out of business a couple years after that.

So what did I do? I said screw them all, bought a used POS, damm near burned my house down with it, then bought a US Stove 6041 five years later, then finally got my Fahrenheit in 2013.

Probably would have been cheaper and less stressful to have bought the Harman back in 2005.... :)
