I will go with the x27 for sure then. That's a really good idea and makes a ton of sense. Thanks!

Don't know where you are but check with the U S Forest Service. In our state, they sell dead wood permits which allow you to harvest dead wood from the National Forest. up to a certain amount.Once you get established in the community, you may learn of some land where the timber has been taken out and people are allowed to get the leftover tops.If there are any wood processors around, you might find they sell scrap wood.I'm near a tie treatment plant and can get an 8 foot pickup load for 15.00.

The early reviews here got me to spend money on an Isocore last fall. Today I got to looking at the 16 inch diameter black cherry yard tree rounds I had been letting sit. The X-27 had bounced off like they were made of rubber so I had set them aside. I had considered noodling them but I sure don't like noodling individual rounds. It was a nice warm sunny day today so I decided to try out that highly rated Isocore that had just been sitting unused. Well, all of those rounds are now C/S/S and drying. Then I tackled the apple tree trimmings that had also been sitting and I thought were destined to end up in the uglies pile but they also fell to that maul. I was able to force open crotches and overcome them when I hit them head on. I would not want to swing that maul all day because it is so heavy but when you need it, it sure does work nice.

I got mine out to play after work today. Started out with some Wh. Oak rounds and some hard Maple chunks...
I still have White Oak rounds and hard Maple chunks  Literally bounced off!
I tried it over the past weekend when they were frozen...that didn't work out too well either. Me thinks this load has a date with da hydro splittah...stinkin yard trees...:hair:

Mine is still sitting at work. Lol I pick it up ever once in a while thinking "I should bring this home tonight " but it is still there. I will have to hunt down some tough rounds to see if it is a better option

Well I have to stop venturing about this here Forum it took me about literally 10 seconds to order one after I started reading this thread. Love Amazon and prime, look forward to getting this bad boy and giving it a run, burning pellets as of now no time to cut this year but cant take the firewood outta a man if he's been down that road .
Thanks for the heads up on this smoking Maul !

Ya it is kinda funny how axes/mauls and chainsaws can turn into a justifiable addiction. Lol

Was just about ready to order one then stopped to think.I've got 6 mauls now. 2-6lb. and 4 8 lb. Granted that the two sixes won't be used for wood as I pre fer an 8(one of which needs some shaping done) but.

I bought a Fiskars ISOCore maul today at Menards on their 11% sale, but the "splitting" end is very dull, clearly not intended for splitting, but rather for directed damage. I bought it anyways to drive a splitting wedge with it's nice wide pounding "face". So there must be at least two models of this ISOCore maul. I'll take a pic when I get back to the truck. Hopefully I can upload...

Yeah, that's totally different than the original I started this thread with. Still looks like a good wedge pounder.

Yes there is different models the one you got is sledge hammer for use like breaking up brick and rock ect. The splitting maul has a splitting wedge at a much sharper angle.

OK. I figured as much. I needed a good lifetime-warranty maul anyways, so it's all good. The collection grows....(MAAD).

Well this year is running about like last year. Today I got an e-mail from one of the places that has one of my retirement investments. That one told me how to get what I think is the last of the documents that I need to start figuring out my taxes. That place has some investments I made while working by buying the stock of the company I worked for at a slight discount. Until I get the dividend statement from them I can't file anything and that is what they said is available to me as of today. I stand by what I said in the post last year, I am lucky to have everything I need to file by mid-February, and here we are at mid-February.
