paid 2 grand for it... no one could buy it for less than twice that! love it... house is warmer (read more heat) do not need to fill it every 3 to 4 hours (read more time in bed with wife! ) only downside is I got way to much kindling and have not practiced lighting fires as often
Have gone thru between 4 and 4.5 cord so far have about that same amount left for this year and about 8 cord css for next year still working on next years, then I will start on the following year. I keep trying to get there years ahead. I am doing much better than I did years ago. I remember the days of going out to cut for the following week just to keep warm. Seasoned wood gives off more BTU's
I like seeing the different amounts of wood folks go through and seeing the drastic increase the further north someone lives. I sometimes struggle to get my 3 cords split and stacked every year, I can't imagine having to do 3 or more times that! Of course when you need 10 or more cords in a year to heat your home, I guess it's that much more important because of the heating bill savings! The $400 or so I might save on the electric bill each winter means this is more of a hobby for me than anything else.
I've probably only burned about 1-1/2 cords. Not much winter to speak of for about the last 3 or 4 years down here. Got about 6 cords in the yard and 1 in shed. Good for 3 years or so at this rate.
It's a struggle for us working stiffs. Imagine starting from scratch to get 35-40 full cords CSS in one year trying to get ahead for the years to come...and I work 60 hour weeks most time. That's where good saws, big splitters and good equipment come into play. Splitting wood for me is not necessarily a relaxing endeavor, although I like it. Most days. Lol
Last year I only burned 2 cords. I have replaced it with 13 cords of hardwood and 1 of pine construction off cuts. 3 year plan, check. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Exactly. The firewood subdivision. Thinking about firewood use......beginning of this winter I was using pine, then got into almost 2/3 cord of short Ash splits from my ex-firewood guy, then went into about 1/2 cord of Red Maple. Used the Maple farther into winter than I thought I would, so that's helped. I was hoping to have about a cord left in the shed, but it's starting to look like that might turn into 2, or close to it. That should help, because next years stacks are just a little shy of normal use.
Burned a cord (a 1/3 of which a neighbor gave me) and a 1/3 cord basket worth of uglies, knots and splitter tailings so far. I had around 3 1/2 cord ready for the season so I've only used a little under a cord of that so far and unless we go til Memorial Day I should be good. The Worst winter we've had so far we burned about 3 cord so think we'll be alright this year plus the 2 year surplus back up is nice to sit on just in case
