Went to a spot I found where a tree service puts out stuff they won't use for firewood outside of their yard. Slim pickings today, with only a bit of silver maple. Oh well, got to use the saw for the first time in a while.

Looks good to me. You get to use the saw and the price was right.

Any amount of wood is good wood. Good find. I scrounge small amounts all the time and next thing you know you have 10 to 12 cord.

Once you start feeling sad about how small the scrounge is, think to yourself....

I will get 5 days worth of heat out of this pile....(or whatever the amount)

before you know it, you'll have a months worth in no time!

Well around here there is not a lot of to be had so any amount is good. A lot of the time it is big pieces that no one wants to deal with or crotches so I take them.

I don't feel sad. There was another guy there and we looked at each other and politely split up the pile. He was milling short logs freehand to maje coffee tables. Told me it took three hours to plane them. Pretty patient guy..and nice too. So itcwas a good little scrounge overall.

When things get to easy you get lazy. Having to struggle at any age keeps you motivated and sharp. Prime example do your kids work as hard as you did? I can tell you my step daughter is in for a hard road when she hits the real world.
