Mahindra 4540 4WD

I moved a chit load of snow and slush from two driveways today, after I move a few items tomorrow from another part of our driveway I'll be cleaning that out. I also plan on hooking up the plow to the rhino so I can plow closer to some drop offs on our driveway. When we first bought the tractor and took through the woods I cut most of our wood on, I started going down a small hill which has a gate (in high,2nd gear) I almost took out a locked gate.....U should've told me they don't stop like trucks.

It will be time to grease the tractor and check some fluid levels before I start tomorrow.

I hope your third function kit comes in before the tractor, I could've used that dozer blade/snowplow today but the bucket did the job.

Hey I can't remember if I asked you. What model backhoe did you get? 75B? 85B? Or something different?

 

when drive is icy... with bucket down ...blower on back dragging.. 3 75 lb weights on each back tire and chains ... I still lose traction why I hate ice storms...

 

I read that the other day on a tractor site, they also said if it's in low instead of high it will also help.

 

I found a picture you posted of your backhoe at one time. Looked like the model was a 4550B.

 

I think so Gasifier but it's been covered up for so long I can't remember the number, it's perfect for the property around the house but once you get back in on the land the brook runs through it's more rocky.

 

I had a call today from the Wood Chop Shop, our third function kit is in for the plow. It's the same model # that will be going on Gasifier 's 3550.

 

With the tractor I cleaned out the snow from the natural drainage area on the low side of our house, after that I decided to move some snow piles just off the driveway back in the woods. If we do get 4-8 inches of snow with over .54 inches of ice on Tuesday night, that will give me plenty of room for more snow.

The grill is cleaned and it's ready for some steaks around 4:30 or 5.

 

If you guys don't mind me asking how much the 3rd function costs and the labour to install it. I have been considering adding one and putting my hydraulic post hole digger on the forks. Also considering an SSQA plow for the loader eventually. Definitely going to wait for a few years for the plow though.

 

Hammy the 3rd function I'm looking at is about 850... my niece works for skid steer dealer her dad a farmer soo.. I was gonna have help to install she says about 2 to 3 hours so whatever your hourly rate your mechanic is there's a ball park

 

Steel lines? Don't know. If the hydraulic motor isn't too big, you could run hose up to the front and run them off the remotes if you have them.

 

Thanks Pallet Pete , it sure makes moving snow a hell of a lot easier, especially the heavy wet stuff.

We did get a backhoe for it too, it sure made removing some stumps much easier. The dealer has been here a few times since we bought it, once to update some codes and the second time we had a small antifreeze leak which was a loose hose clamp which felt tight with a screwdriver but with a socket you could tighten it down more which fixed the small leak.

Gasifier should have his Mahindra 3550 soon.

 

The third function kit with the dozer blade/snowplow are being installed, hopefully we'll have it back by Thursday the latest.

We'll use the rhino with the plow for a backup until it gets back.

 

I talked with the tech doing the third function kit, it's done but I didn't bother asking when delivery would be but they'll call.

Gasifier , the left and right controls for the plow angle are controlled by two buttons.

 

thewoodlands , I am anxious awaiting your review of that setup! my drive is long and I do have a blower on back (avatar) but am thinking of doing a little plow in front.. for when we grt 2 inches of slop.. it's not enough to blow but when you just drive on it and then freezes... welcome ice skating rink! because of my drive length a plow only option is unwise because if snow gets real deep you got to be able to push banks back... I did that last big .snow year.. and the cost of the bucket loader for 5 hours to push banks back.. was over a grand.. so I got blower and chains!

 

Once we get it back I'll be on it testing it out and then get a review up. This has taken so long, the plow was in before Thanksgiving but the company that makes the third function kit for the 4540 took a very long time, it finally came in a week or so before Gasifier 's tractor came in.

Since it's a dozer blade too I decided that I would put up with the wait because we'll be using it back on the trails this spring/summer. The third function kit was something new for the 4540.

 

I think that "dozer" blade will work on soil that isn't too hard. But with the weight and power of that tractor you'll have to be careful of rocks and stumps that don't want to move. Or you may end up breaking something. I wonder if there is a way to lock it in place when using on dirt/stone? So you are not putting so much pressure on your hydraulic pistons? I have never used one like that.
