What's in the hopper?

Tried them once, and for the reasons already stated above, would not buy them again - at any price. They were just too much of a nuisance. Due to the bridging Will showed, the stove "runs out of pellets" when there is still 40+lbs of pellets in the hopper. More fines than real pellets in the bag. Pellets (let's call them large fines) jump out of the burn pot before they are fully burned. Nice fireworks show, and nice low ash, but nice low heat output to go with it. No thanks. On the other hand, I did like the AWF hardwoods, and would buy those again.

Nice score CF, I know your stove does love those LG/Satisfactions. We like them here too. Only have 3 bags left, time to restock soon.

I just remembered my bil bought 5 tons of the AWFWP this year as his only pellet. He is burning them in a Castille insert. What's that have, a 45# hopper? Any way, he has not complained once about them. And this dude is the most particular about everything. I wonder if they made changes or if he got lucky.
He can barely make it through the night with normal sliding pellets.

    That's not good!!

If they are willing to wheel and deal. Their hardwoods are really decent. I'd be interested in some.

LOL - after everything I just said about them, I probably just got a really bad batch. After all, that would be par for the course. Seriously though, if he's got a 45# hopper and has not complained at all about bridging, then he's got the AWFWPs I wish I had gotten when I bought them!

I think many got the bad batch.

Will's pellets don't look like they have the shiny glaze.

I had no problems with bridging either but my hopper walls are real steep, just couldn't get any heat out of them.hardwoods burn great though.

Agreed the best Hardwood pellets I have seen or used to date ! Wicked consistent in length and very hard pellets with a great sheen, a breeze to screen but do not really require screening as they have almost any fines at all. Heat is substantial and consistent with very little ash left in burn. "
Good stuff had I known about them as well would probably be the only pellets in my stash, okay not true can't resist trying different pellets but they would be the dominant pellet and then you compare the price definite top choice . I agree with you 100% TT

Cubies got a bad wrap for a while(higher ash content mostly). Mostly use Oak for fiber. But when the fiber gets short. They do toss in some maple. Still a good pellet, But a bit more ash than the mostly Oak batches. One of the hotter hardwood brands. Only hardwood that swacked em was the sets at BBS prices. Otherwise they are right in the ball park of Hamers and Turmans. Going rate in my neck of the woods is @$285/ton.

I think subsailor got some stuff that was bad ash IIRC. Not sure what he though of the heat?

My stove just doesn't like them. High ash and low heat. But don't judge them by me.

With the drive out to Orange they were $259 a ton all said and done, not a bad price at all for this quality pellet, seriously thinking about heading back out only because I am giving some serious thought of setting up the Pelpro as a cellar dwellar. Might put the Mrs. over the edge so got to think serious about this one before I pull the trigger, but but if her bathroom is warm I am sure it would be just fine and I am sure I can make that happen if in fact I do move the Pelpro to the cellar.
After running some Cubex through the Harman just loaded the bin with Eagle Valley and will be burning these for a few days, man they smell good ! Sitting with my chromebook next to the bin.

decent pricing, as in $250 retail for the softi, $5 less for the hardwood, but we didn't get serious, and the comments here tell me that i don't need the complaints that may come with them.

My grandfather had a sign on the wall of his shop that read.... "the bitterness of poor quality will remain long after the sweetness of low price!"

i'll wait till spring to decide what to buy - keep selling down the warehouse

Co-workers were burning these back in '14-'15, and raved about them.. Harmans, Englanders, Breckwells - seemed like a good pellet, regardless of stove.

BUT, they had a nice sheen on the pellets.. And they smelled like a freshly cut tree. Picked up a few bags @ the local garden center in Keene back then, opened the bag to inspect, wife started sneezing. :picard: Allergies.. Ended up trading a co-worker for a few bags of Cubex.

Guess what I'm trying to say is maybe don't write them off just yet - I'd be asking what's up w/ the quality of late though, and maybe get a few test bags of current production in, - if you're so inclined.

Your Grandfather was a wise man.

IMO, just not worth it unless the funneling issue was/is somehow corrected...which I'm sure wasn't unless they changed things up at the mill somehow.

I'd pay $235 to $240 for AWF hardwoods. That's about what BT might be selling their fusion blend for come spring.

I gotz a feeling springs deals aint gonna be as low as we expect. I think we might see a better deal late summer or early fall. Mills are gonna try and get what they can to make as much as possible. But again all just a guess as the crystal ball be on da fritz again!! I kind of bet(won't bank on it though) a BBS deal in the $199 range. But with some places reporting low supplies?? That might not be but a illusion......... I want a deal, But expect the BBS are shy from all the stagnant sales. I bet we see the pellet houses gaining the upper hand with some of the mills ware. But may take a while for it to ripple down. Why I say make a late deal this season??

Just me rambling!! Take it for what it be worth.

Agree Jay, just don't see how any new inventory shipped could match last year's sale prices w/ Transportation costs back on the rise - retail fuel prices are up approx. 20% from August '16 in this area, and from what I'm reading: are expected to continue to rise throughout this year.
