Probably been posted before but this, in my opinion is one of the better video's I've seen over the years. The dog is so well trained it's even looking up! LOL Enjoy.
I think he's doing fine. He was a feller for years. Don't know about the dog as it doesn't have a helmet or chaps.
The only feller I know is Bob....used to hang out in Cleveland.....course there may be a few down at the VFW (fellers that is)
Looks like he's done that a few times. After the cutting the wedge, he sticks the tip way in the back?...cleaning out the chips?
He's cleaning the hinge up. Notice how he had to come at an angle as the bar won't reach the width of the tree on the initial cut. That's a ported saw too by the way. He's not a pretender, he worked for a logging company many years so he has done more than most of us combined.
He's experienced....it shows when he goes back in to clean up the face cut, as well as when he stays in the back cut as its falling.....that technique is used sometimes to keep heartwood from pulling out of the butt. The Humboldt notch (undercut notch) that he used is also a sign of an experienced logger....saves on useable lumber on the butt log....
The impressive bit happens at 0:52 when he drops to the second cut and, without a moment's pause, nails the position and angle to perfectly line up with the far end of the first cut, which he can't see from where he's standing. He's as comfortable with that saw as I am with my bedroom light switch.
Watching this guy is like watching pro car racing, ski jumping, or really anything done by a true professional. They do it so easy that us mere mortals think: Hey, I can do that too! Yea, right. Great video, thanks for posting.
Now that one really reminded me of old times. I'm betting he just sharpened that saw before felling (wise). Yes, he handled the saw as if he knew it very well and was comfortable, yet careful throughout the entire time. I'd hire him. Also like Scotty stated, with him staying with the cut as the tree started to fall, this is how I was taught and yes, it can save a lot of heartwood.
For sure, a pro at work. He makes it look easy. It's always a joy to watch someone do something well, or to do it well yourself.
Kewl vid. As for some one saying he is cocky, well that young man deserves to be. Many folks dont realize what it takes to do that kind of work. Working on up to 50° grades, the chance you could be crushed or maimed at any time. I think safety glasses are the least of his worries. If you like watching forestry vids this guy is one of my favorites to watch. I love is attitude most of all I think.
Thanks for sharing the video Kevin, I can't tell how many times I have watched it. He is a true professional and is a pleasure to watch.
My thoughts exactly. It took him 2 minutes 15 seconds to do the job and that's with some commentary. If someone wants to criticize I'd like to see them make a video in real time showing it. I give the guys who do this day in and day out much respect as it is something very few could do. Like others have said, he makes it look WAY too easy and that's not a small tree. He does it quicker, and in my opinion better than most of us would do an 18" tree. I'll readily admit that and not hide the fact. Thanks for your link as well Butcher.
