With the weather projection for the next ten days, indications are wood usage will drop. I suspect we are way past the half way point in wood usage, given we have been SOOOO cold. There are several days next week where our temps are supposed to be slightly above norms. I started out way short on wood for this year...under two cords....and expected to get somewhere into January. So, since just after our first very cold spell, when I used a LOT of wood, I have been keeping the house bearable but chilly, and have managed amazingly well. I have between 1 1/2 and 2 face cords left. I should get somewhere into March with it. The past two weeks I have cut and burned five very small very dead and very dry trees...about 3 inch diameter max at the base. No point in cutting anything bigger right now...aside from dry issues, anything bigger will just be buried in snow when it falls. So some slight supplementation in the wood supply, but overall I have been able to keep this large home reasonably comfortable on very little wood. Will be a relief to start next season with an adequate amount of well seasoned wood. It has been a nuisance having my depleting wood piles nagging at my mind all winter. Good that we are less than 40 days to Spring. I don't ever remember being so glad Spring was approaching.
Believe it or not, I think we have burned only about 2 cord. If that is true, we should end up about normal for us: 3 cord. But I have not measured it yet and winter is not yet over.
By the end of next week Ill have burned just over 3 full cords of wood. The bad part is thats all I had for this burning season If the cold weather keeps up Im going to have to go into next years not so seasoned wood. Im going to have to get more wood for next year Im thinking somewhere in the 4-5 cord range.
I feel for ya Matt, I have plenty but I'm a cord past last year this time. I usually average 3+- for the winter, I'm now into 4 and March isn't here yet. I keep a extra cord on the back burner for this reason. I'm going to start planning for 5 cord a winter.
Ive got one more cord in the back its mostly pine should be pretty well seasoned good enough to finish up the winter. Im going to have to buy wood for next year for the time being so Im going to buy 5 cords and experiment with solar kilns hopefully Ill be ready for next winter.
Well at this point I've got 3 cords to the house. I should be through it sometime this week, which is what I normally burn. But I also got a bigger stove too. So that will play into. However the second half of February and March have been known to be not too nice.
Definitely more this year than last year by far. Id have to say we are getting into the 3 cord territory. This winter just wont let up. June cant get here fast enough.
Well, with "spring" ahead this Sunday, wheres eveyone else at now? I just finished my 4th cord for the winter.... I can't remember when I burn't 5, but I'm into the 5th now!...
It should be a record amount for us, shoulder season wood = 1.83 cord, good hardwood = 1.83 cord, cherry = 2.44 cord for a total of 6.10 cord. The only wood we have left from the above is just over .61 cord of Cherry and what's in the racks in the basement. If the weather stays cooler I can see us burning more. The combination of heating from the basement and the cold weather put a hurt on the wood inventory. We also used over 60 bags of pellets, the oil truck did stay away for the 4th year.
Im into my fourth cord this weather better break sooner than later I dont have any more wood after this cord
About 3 1/2. Still have some good seasoned stuff under the wood shed. I am going to make it but it was a close call. Sort of pizzed off at myself for cutting it too close. SLACKER!
I'm knocking of the door of 7 cord. The wood I brought up to the house yesterday needs to last me until Jan 2015 to stay on schedule
O.S, It wasn't just you… I think most of us fell in that category. I have a cord of seasoned left, "my back up shoulder junk" My norm is 3, 4 at most. I'm on 5 now…. I have about 4+- for next year. I gotta get on the horse also…
I'll have to actually go out and take an official measurement, but I'm somewhere around 6-7 full cord so far, which used to last me a full heating season (early to mid October through middle to late May). But being I have had two large stoves going pretty much nonstop due to the super cold the past several months, we will use more this year. I'm glad as I got to see what the combo of stoves is capable of (my Napoleon 1900p and the Napoleon NZ3000), and even when the mercury was around -20°, the house was EASILY kept in the upper 70s- low 80s, even with the draft kept down on them. We have a fond love for both stoves...Both burning very cleanly with the 3 yr seasoned wood......that makes a HUGE difference!!
