Lil pine... not my favorite wood but some friends from church have enough dead standing pine to last me years. They drop em, limb em, and load logs so too easy to pass up. Trailer is 14' long, 8' wide, and piled up at least 6'. Best part is it dumps

Poplar is considered a hardwood. Probably the softest of them all.
Good for burning? The quick answer is yes. It makes very good heat, very fast. It dries in as little as 9 months.

If its easy to get and free? Get it! But look for Locust, Oak, Beech and Hickory and you'll thank us later.
These very dense woods last hours longer in the stove. Possibly 6-8 hours longer!

Ash is very plentiful right now and easy to spot as many are standing dead with little to no bark and are just waiting for you to get there and harvest them.

    When you get a minute
check out the links in the resource section at the top of the page.
Start with the btu chart Firewood BTU & Drying Chart
and check out Dennis' "Primer on wood Burning"
There is loads of info there that will help you

Oh and I almost forgot...Welcome to the club!:handshake:

Picked up some wood from a very nice gentleman who answered my WTB CL ad. Got almost two full truckbeds full of hardwoods!

I definitely recognize ash and I was told that some is cherry. This might sound weird - but the ash was an absolute dream to split. Just straight grained easy splits. Need to clean up my splitting area - but that's my new Husqvarna S2800 splitting axe.

Really like the husky s2800 so far. Head is bigger with more aggressive wedge design than an x27/x25. The big downside is the price - about 2.5x more expensive than the equivalent x25.

I'm swinging it over my X27 right now. Someone posted a comparison pic and it shows the head differences we'll.

If you have never smoked any meat, keep a few pieces of cherry to smoke with, it will turn like into pure goodness!!!!

Honestly, I wasn't sure what the yellowish wood was. I thought osage orange was limited to OK/TX and I'm in PA. I'm not very good at identifying trees - I can identify ash and red oak and that's about it. Two weeks ago I posted pics of my "white oak" that was actually tulip poplar :)

Ya I would say it grows almost anywhere, very tough tree!!!!

I will tell you it is some great wood.....did you notice how hard it was when cutting it.... I know every time I get into it, I save it to cut last as it inevitably dulls the hell out of your chain.... great wood though!!!!!

If you do come across any osage orange I do know that people it is excellent wood to make bows out of, and people pay some crazy money for it. :hair::D:makeitrain"

    Keep that in mind!

Thanks. I was thinking about adding something like that since the slots are already there. Do you remember what size wood you used for the uprights?

Mine are cheap 1"×2"s. Scraps I had laying around. So far they are holding up well.
