They had actually had a groomer out since yesterdays ride which surprised us, we didn't go on the county trail because certain areas still had running water and not enough snow on them.

The local high school/grade school had some young kids cross country skiing at the state park this morning, some were doing good and others would hit the deck every five feet but I give them credit for being outside trying a new sport.

Yes usually her and I do. Were surrounded by forest so its fun poking around in the woods and sometimes I find a nice standing dead tree that I log in my mind for a spring extraction! Nice looking stacks by the way!

Sitting at -15 C (about 4? F), but the wind is making it a bit chilly. Burning off some punky junk poplar and pine (who thought I should keep this stuff?). But I suppose if it keeps the furnace off, good enough.

Yeah, she seems to have "ooo" and "gurgle hiccup" down for now, so I figure another five or six months and I'll be golden. ;)

I can certainly relate to the local history piece. Finding out a Revolutionary War hero (Israel Bissell) is buried up the road in our local cemetery has gotten my gears turning on our history here. Interesting stuff - and best consumed with books from the local library rather than the not always all-knowing internet.

Today was one of the first sunny days we have had in a month. I took advantage of the solar heating through the windows and let black walnut and red maple heat the house until almost all the coals were gone. Now that the sun is going down I loaded up with two pieces of locust running N-S with a piece of red maple sandwiched in between. Then I put two large beech splits running E-W on top. That should throw some heat for a few hours

26°f and hardly any snow left on the ground. Put three maple splits in the stove. Good enough.

Another below zero wind chill morning and day coming up.

Looking back over the years, I would peek out at the thermometer at 4:30 in the morning to see what I was up against on the way into work. There were too many times that I read exactly -40f as a welcome to today surprise. Can't believe I went in those days!

Sure am glad it hasn't been anywhere near that cold the last couple years.

I heard a Minn station yesterday say that this was the anniversary of a -60 (!) reading in on of their towns...[IMG]

No matter how bad you have it, someone else not too far away has it a lot worse!!!

I laugh at the guys who say it's cold and their like. It got freezing down here it was 25 degrees! Oh if winters were only so easy. I am only slightly jealous lol. I like the winters most of the time being colder...can stop at an intersection without being asked for money or cans lol.
