-18c/0f under clear skies and Im getting ready to load the stove with doug fir after my overnight burn. Have a great day!
We had 22 this morning, I just started our first fire of the day after sledding and then taking care of a few things on the phone. The pellet stoves been off since early this morning.
Below zero coming up tonight. Just fired up the kicker stove in the basement...nothing on the schedule but book reading and FHC tonight!!!
Running a few maple splits to keep the boiler up to temp before the overnight load, which will be hickory and red oak, because that's what is next in the stacks. Watcha reading, yooperdave? I just finished the second book in a series of alternate history fiction ("Amerika" by a guy named Lally - decent read) and need something to read in between trying to teach my eight week old to say "Dada."
At only 8 weeks old, you'll be spending a lot of time trying to teach "Dada"! It is a book of local history of the U.P. Interesting to me. Trying to get into the habit of reading once again. Word usage is way down....
5 degrees with a feel of -8 outside here in MN as of 7:30 pm. Boiler rocking at 190ish and greenhouse a balmy 70 and 70%RH 30 Clip Magazine On My Ghost Gun
It's 26 out heading down to 13 according to NOAA, the liberty is going with Sugar Maple,Ash and some Red Maple. Before I head to the sleeper I'll set the pellet stove on 78.
You guys have a good snow year? I used to come ride out there all the time. Ahhh memories..... We stayed all the time at the 7 (I think) room Maple Lake Lodge in Bergland. 30 Clip Magazine On My Ghost Gun
We took a beating the 2nd half of Jan with the warm spell that was so unseasonal for us (and winter sports). So no, not a good snow year. Last year at this time, I had about 36" in an untouched spot of the yard...pics are on here somewhere. I remember the Maple lodge! Used to buy bait form a very nice lady there-she would always give me about 3 doz for the price of one doz minnows! There are new owners there now, I believe.
The owners at the time we were going were awesome. I'd say back 95 through 98 is when we were up there almost every weekend. They were awesome. We had a cocker spaniel and they took care of her while we were gone. We'd put on some serious miles. Sometimes getting a second motel because we were too far to go back that same day. No problems. They took care of her like it was their own dog. It was nice too because there was a cat dealership right down the road if we needed parts. I want to say it was called timberline. But I could be wrong. 30 Clip Magazine On My Ghost Gun
Todays winning number is...........17 * with no wind. It doesn't feel cold at all. Toasting up some Beech, maple, & Oak.
28 to 30, junk maple sure can produce plenty of small coals and ashes!! start feeding solid maple, elm and ash today,,,,might be some cherry in there too. Hoping to make some far'wood today.
17 °F this mornin got a load of ash in with a stick of hickory , lookin at High: 20 °F, Low of 12 °F tonight We will see what the rest of February brings
Almost 40ºF out there today. Oak and mystery wood in the stove. Probably let the coals get down to almost nothing between reloads. But colder weather blowing in, teens at night. Will be reloading every 3 to 4 hours soon enough.
We had 19 this morning and then it dropped to 16, I started a small fire in the Liberty with a mixture of Maples and then we took off for a small ride on the sleds.
Nothing beats a small a small ride ride on the sleds. Except it always turns out to be a longer ride than we planned! You southerners wouldn't understand, And I couldn't possibly explain it, to those that those that haven't lived it. The north country is a special place.
