Does this mean that Jan 30 is now a national holiday and a day off from work next year

Are you dealing with Comcast? A friend at work is also on Comcast in another city and he said his emta loses power if he unplugs it-means no battery. In fact he said that is how Comcast tells him to reset the modem-unplug it. Metrocast will tell you you cannot reset it by unplugging it because of the battery. I just tell them I can remove the battery-guess I am more a techie type than most and know what a battery is and how to remove the cover and take it out

New emta has a reset button on it though so maybe no need to take out the battery.

Most cable modem units can be reset by disconnecting and reconnecting the cable. No need to unplug or drop power at least that is what I got from a TW wonk one evening.

No...I work for cable company. Problem is if no battery is issued with the emta's and power goes out and you can't make a 911 call, well, let's just say lawsuits galore.

IMO, pulling the battery is best to reboot instead of power button... but that's just me.

Custom service calls it "power cycle". Whatever....lol

Since my modem is only a modem (I don't have a land line), there is no need for a battery I guess. Even when I had a land line it was thru the regular phone company. Guess it makes sense for those that have their phone thru their cable company.

If it is a telephone modem then yes there should be a battery compartment that is usually on the bottom of the unit. The battery usually doesnt keep internet going, only the phone.

Our modems do not have battery back-up just the emta's that incorporate the phone with the modem that have them. Here's the battery in them they have black and green. Supposedly green ones last twice as long:

That looks like an Arris emta. What is your take on using the modem's wifi vs using a Netgear, Lynksis etc for wifi ? Should we had had to change the setup at my honey's place? She never got service from the modem. Her son's bedroom is right next to the modem, literally the other side of the wall and she had to run a hard connection for his Xbox. I dont know what emta she has from Comcast, I should have checked the make and model.

IMO...I'd turn off the wireless portion of the modem and use an external one like the Netgear (as long as modem portion is working correctly). I'm a bit partial to Netgear as that's what I use at home. Really though, the wireless should be working in that thing so something must be up with it.

Our emta's don't have wireless capability but we do carry a 3 in 1 modem that is the modem, wireless router and a Moca bridge for our TiVo crap and such.

We hand out Linksys e1200 and 2500 wireless routers to our customers and IMO both are junk.
