So far it's been averaging 35 during the day and 25 at night. That sure makes burning wood a lot easier then when we get the deep freeze. I've burned less than a normal winter, but I haven't kept that close of an eye on it to know how much. How's it going with you?
Probably a little less than normal. I have been burning more lately just because I'm scared I moved too much up to the house. Normally I burn about 2.5-3 cords. This year I will be around 2-2.5 cords unless Febuary is brutal and carries into March and April like a couple of years ago.
its been mild here in the midwest. a couple days almost hit 60 in january. even saw some motorcycles going by. I would prefer a deep freeze. it helps firewood sales and the ground stays nice and frozen, so its easy to work in... 35* just makes for a sloppy muddy mess, better off to stay inside than cut wood on those days... now its getting colder so I can get back out there. I usually go thru about 15 cords in the owb. heating the house and 1300 sq ft shop. this year I'll probably go thru 10~ cords
Same here... Then this weekend it decided to get cold again.... but we're staying warm, so all's gooder
Not much of a difference even though it's been warmer lately, February will be warmer than normal but still cold enough up here in the real North Country. If our wood stove was up here, then we would be saving firewood. I did forget this, we have saved on the pellets because we didn't need both stoves going.
A little less than normal. And less than those two miserable ones we had a few winters ago! I like this one!
our winter, so far, is a little colder w/ more snow than the last 2. For the last week, lows in high single digits, highs in low 30s (hit 45 today, though). we've had about 18" of snow in the last 10 days, but none for the last 3, so I haven't had to plow the driveway since Wednesday. I have burned a little over 2 cords so far.
Weather has been spring like outside of a couple weekends here this past month. Wood consumption down substantially - but I'm running the furnace for the first time in 7yrs Probably burned under 1 cord so far - mix of pine and oak
This is the 3rd year with the wood stove, and so far I'm guessing the coldest of the three by HDD, with wonky bursts of seriously warm weather, relatively speaking. It was +5 C (40 F) here today. I've cooked on the BBQ and the charcoal grill in the last week...that's not normal lol I look back on my phone, and just over two weeks ago we were hitting -35 to -45 C weather (even worse one night with wind gusts) and then this. I don't even know what to think. I actually find it easier to deal with -10 C ( 14? F) or colder because then I can keep on feeding the stove. If it's much warmer it gets too easy to overheat.
Enjoy it while you can. It's not normal to be "overheated" during a Canadian winter. I hope we don't get spanked in a couple weeks.
Much more mild than normal so far here in Virginia. I've burned about 2 cords so far, maybe not even that. I would actually like to see some colder weather and snow before winter is over.
I'm in the same camp weather in VA has been crazy this year. While we've had a week of really cold weather the random 60 degree days have been frequent. I'd just like it to settle in so I can run 24/7 and not have to choke the stove to much.
It's been a pathetic winter here in central PA. Soaking wet, muddy, depressing, and gloomy almost 5 days out of a week, every week anymore...... Yard is total mush, had been almost all winter. And I've burned a record LOW amount of wood so far this burning season, right around 2 cord or so. Still hoping for a really cold blast that lasts one or two weeks, so I can get the sawmill up on the farm to finally mill those three huge white oak logs for my bedroom flooring project.... ..not to mention maple sugaring season here in a week or two.....
I am sure we haven't burned 2 cord yet. Amazing. But I do not think we've started a cold stove as often as we did last year.
with the efficiency of that ZC get used to using less. he'll, you might never have to cut again with the hoard you have.
Not too bad here. Not as warm as last year, but not nearly as cold as winterpocalypse the year before. I just hope spring and early summer are a little more normal.. last year we wound up making a few fires in the owb in June after seeing 40s+ regularly in January and February! It was a strange year for weather, and we got exactly 0 apples off of our little bunch of four trees.
