Oh I know it's crazy down here while forests just full of dead standing ash, hope nothing like that happens to maples or my maple syrup business will be history...
Welcome to a truly great forum! My wife and I lived just outside Peterborough for many years. I was commuting to the GTA and that wears on a guy so gave that up and took a job in Peterborough for less money but was well worth it. Had a daughter 2.5 years ago then soon after moved to NB to be close to my family and buy a farm. I miss all the great people we had in Ontario but no regrets on the move at all. You seem to have a great long term plan. Took us a long time to get to the point we could do what we are doing. Seemed to take forever at the time but now we look back and think it wasn't too long and worth the effort and sacrifice.
Welcome to the forum grandgourmand. I am also not yet in a position to use the wood I have been processing. I am building a home out in the stix that includes a stove as an emergency/supplemental heat source but right now I live in town. I have about 2 cords of properly seasoned wood on hand, mostly cherry and mulberry. While I am building, I can't be there all the time to tend a fire so I am paying for a ground source, geothermal, heat pump to keep the place warm in winter. Compared to even the gas heat in my present home, it costs less than half as much per month. Unfortunately the only real benefit of that heat is keeping my pipes from freezing. I would feel much better if I was living there and holding down heating bills with wood burning instead.
Hi grandgourmand , glad to see you found us! Sounds like you got a nice piece of land there to play on, good for you, your own private campground.
Welcome to the forum. Just one question.......you going to process all tha wood with just one hand ? bob
Gid'day from another Valley lad transplanted to the GTA area. Born and raised in the Ottawa Valley but moved to the big smoke for school and work. Still have a cottage and hunt camp in the valley so that is where my css and wood burning takes place.
And by now, you should know just how much we enjoy drooling over pics of cottages, camps, wood processing areas!!! Yup.
