What's a good easy way to clean copper minus the elbow grease method? I'm trying to clean my wort chiller (part of beer making)... buddy of mine brazed it. Which left it pretty dirty. I've seen baking soda and vinegar on the internet... but don't want to subject to damage, which could possibly off flavor my beer...
This is just like powdered comet and it's awesome stuff. I use it to clean copper bottom pans and the stainless sinks. You'll find many uses for it. This link will however cost you a 6 pack shipped to me Amazon.com: Bar Keepers FriendĀ® Cleanser & Polish: 12 OZ: Health & Personal Care
I would double check that it's safe to use in a beverage application. I do a fair amount of silver solder work (not quite a braze but similar) and while it's a fantastic joint, it's prohibited for use in potable water systems.
Form a paste from table salt and vinegar and scrub it down with a dry rag. The salt is an abrasive and the vingar is self explanatory for copper.
Thanks for the heads up... I'll try to find out more info. I know he said it was like 5% & 15% silver... never would have thought of that since I told him it needed to be lead free....
Yes, that's what I've been reading about... I guess lesson learned... but I think according to what I was reading on the markings on the rods they are just silver / copper / phosphate (flux?) . I'll contact company on Monday....
X2 on the Barkeeper's friend awesome for chrome, copper, stainless steel, porcelain and more and it's very cheap at Walmart!
The phosphate is indeed the the flux. If the silver turns out to be a problem, you could market the brew as a werewolf deterrent.....
