mil has a bloody spinning wheel I garage.. so there ought to be a loom in storage somewhere let me check...
Just wants a scarf made. She always likes a scarf and I think she is down to one which is a wool scarf our son bought for her when he was in Scotland.
When/If you need yarn, please let me know. We are now raising Icelandic sheep, so we will have wool available every Spring and Fall.
What kind of loom? Anything like this? Darn, I just looked a bit further, Boy do these look like fun! Round, rectangular, even ones like they use to make rugs but smaller. loom scarf - Google Search
I made the mistake once of bragging up the homemade woolen socks my wife makes on her sock Knitting machine. I was rewarded with a weekend spent washing and carding wool to help her get enough material to spin to make the socks some guys wanted. She said she could make a scarf, but it would be several months before she could even get to it. She'll have to spin wool for warping, then rewarp a loom to set it up for scarf making. Depending on what kind of wool you want it made of. If she doesn't have the right stuff on hand might have to shear a sheep then clean and process it. Then spin it. Then dye it whatever colors you want. Then the actual weaving starts. It's a pretty complex operation. Just working at it part time you're looking at several weeks lead time. Go to Etsy.com and search hand made hand woven scarves. Uffda!!
Many thanks Bgoathill but she just informed me she has that scarf her son bought in Scotland and can wear it only if it is very cold outdoors so she does not want another wool one. Dang, I thought we had a winner too.
