Sorry to hear of these troubles. It was the best decision getting to a real hospital. We had to take our son to Albany Med to save his life after the local hospital...aka the "country club" had him for weeks. It was tough seeing the tube down his nose also. You're in good hands at Westchester, my niece is a ICU nurse there.

    Good Luck!

and yes Jake, you can fire your doctors we did!

Well, you can at the least get a second opinion. I don't see why you can't change doctors. If it is a PCP that you want to change, then you would have to do the process thru your insurance which might be a pain but worth it (and the doctor of your choice would have to be accepting new patients). If it is a specialist, then I would ask for a referral to another specialist (you might want to make sure he/she is in your insurance network).

    Yes, yes, and yep.

I was laid off just before getting diagnosed and lost my health insurance. 2 months later after I finally got on WWW's insurance I had to get all new doctors (new network) and it was Blessing In Disguise. Can you or C google your current insurance "providers" like crazy, go get second opinions. So, WWW prefers BFG and Firestone tires, just the way his brain works. Sounds to me like your specialist is stuck on only one brand of tires and not willing to consider looking at the others, go find a doc that looks at all brands to find the right fit for you. Don't walk, RUN and find where you can go for second opinions. You've been suffering too long.

Off my soapbox now, thank you for your time :)

Went in to work today to a real chit how there, I should have stayed home :hair:
Like B, I was stuck behind a rolling road block of 2 plows going 20 mph on rte 11. I have seen that on highways, but rte 11? :headbang:

Came home and cleaned what I could but not down to pavement as its all frozen sleet that got rained on a bit today. Just hoping it doesnt rain much and make it glare ice since now it is at least a looser/crunchy icy coating that is left behind and rain will change that to glare crap.

Didn't get much freezing rain or snow but a boatload of sleet. 5" worth in my driveway. Heaviest chit I have ever tried to shovel. Torn the gutter off my garage. Son plowed around 5, raining pretty good right now. I'm just hoping it doesn't get cold and freeze. My weather station is saying 32.7 right now so I may not get my wishes.

Miserable ride into to Boston this morning, too many who think 4 wheel drive means they can drive as fast as they want. Yup waved at them as they passed by and waved at them in the ditch or snow bank as I passed them. No rain, sleet all snow and seems the Plow fellas did not plow any of the side roads . Tough ride out of the hills to Route 2 almost 3 hour commute all in all to get to work this morning . Not a way to start the day .

How far is Lunenburg from Route 2? I used to travel that way to SW New Hampshire and always saw the exit sign. 95-495-Rt. 2 sucks, so now I go down through Concord.

It's a 12 year old truck with nearly 170,000 on the clock. Guess it was due. However, had the manufacturer spent an extra $20 on stainless lines when it was built, it wouldn't have needed it. That $20 went for an extra cup holder or two instead.

The job wasn't fun, but it wasn't as bad as replacing a clutch in a front wheel drive car. And I kept a lot of cash in my pocket by doing it myself. More money for beer....

This morning, I went out the car, covered with a thick coating of granular snow/ice. not frozen to the car. same with the driveway. Walked out the road, not slippery there either. So I warmed up the car, then out to the VA to use the pool for exercise. Surprised me when the lifeguard and I were the only ones there. Had the whole pool to myself.
I have direct tv again. @ 9 PM, they came on with a weather warning showing all ice for this area. Nice service, but not looking forward to the ice, or worse, power outages. I've seen a few report of severe damage and loss of life from trees falling into homes. Wind and Ice the cause. I don't understand why anyone lets a tree stand next to their home. I've seen too many topple over to let that happen to my home. I've taken down any tree that is so large that it would crush my house falling on it.

Thank you all again for your prayers, thoughts and well wishes. It is going to be a little bit of time before he is back on his feet. He may get the stomach drain out tomorrow, so the tube up his nose will disappear. May also begin adding cc's to his feeding tube intake, and take a little walk. Also getting a cat scan. Thursday or Friday they may do a swallow test which will be big if he can swallow. That depends on what the cat scan shows. My wife is coming home tomorrow after cat scan as she has to work Thursday and Friday. The hospital she works at has been sold and change is coming soon so she needs to get back for a few days. Plus the poor dogs miss her badly !

Oh yea you can fire your doctors Jay. I've done it a few times. I wish the damm GI doctor and office had paid attention to his problem and gotten a grip on it sooner. My wife and I both told him to find another doctor weeks before he had real problems. Thank God the surgeon realized he was in real trouble and moved up his surgery. It took a trip to the hospital and phone calls from the ER doctorto get the Gi doc to call the surgeon. A month had gone by and my boy had lost 40 lbs.

If you don't think you are getting a fair shake Jay then ask around, make some phone calls, including your insurance company, and see another doctor. Do as much research as you can and question your current doctor and a new doctor to help make yourself comfortable with your or your loved ones situation.

    Doggy

I didn't think the roads were horrid, just needed to drive with respect for the situation. Still had some A-holes trying to pass. I really don't care if they pass, just don't want them to take me with them.

Agree, agree, agree! As an Rn, I know when they are pushing me off, or not listening. I've move my clients to other MDs more than once. I always tell them. Have plan A, if that isn't satisfactory, move to plan B and so on. I've sent many clients to the hospital when my calls to MD got an unsatisfactory response.

Me and the guy behind me got passed by some a hole in a Nissan Sentara as I was stopped at a four way stop. He blew right through it........I was hoping to God he would lose control and end up in a ditch.

X2. Roads were not too bad in the am and fine after work. Nothing really stuck to the truck during the day at work either. Highway was ok in the am as long as your speed was kept in check-not everyone pays attention to conditions though and as Luneyburg and bogieb mentioned they often end up in the median-if they are lucky.

Had I got to the driveway early in the day it would probably have been pretty clear this morning. But after work it had frozen a bit and hopefully melts today and tomorrow. Temps are in our favor

Had loads of fun yesterday evening before going to my night job. Got home and had about 5" of almost set concrete-type snow/sleet mix in the driveway. And the 2' tall berm in front of the driveway and the berm under where the roof dumped. And then there was the berm all along the ramp to the back door. Couldn't even open the storm door any because the pile was tall and dense enough that it couldn't be pushed. Fortunately, the spaces between ramp slats let out the excessively excess water, and it wasn't cold enough to freeze to the wood so it only took 18 minutes to shovel that (yes, I timed it). Then I spent the remainder of 1 hour and 15 minutes shoveling out berms (with a metal spade shovel to break up the "concrete") and snow blowing between the berms. Did not get any pathways done except to the propane tanks and to the fence gate just in front of the ramp. So at least I had two exits (garage and back door) cleared if needed.

Got ready for work and as I left it started sleeting again. sleeted on and off for the next 3 hours. I'll go home this afternoon and work on this chit some more.

It's funny because I hear so many people complain about the 4WD crowd but most of the idiots I see are in cars passing plows and 4WD's. And I don't remember the last time I saw a 4WD off in the ditch, but last week I saw two cars off in the ditch as I was coming home from my night job. Oh, and then I just love the ones that see a 4WD coming and have to get out in front of it. I swear they are the ones that think the 4WD's have 4-wheel stop because they just pull out when you are like 15 feet away (and of course they try to peel out and that doesn't work at all). I don't know how many of them I have come close to t-boning because of their bonehead moves.

I will admit that most of my driving is done during abnormal commute times, so maybe the weirdos are out just for my amusement.
