Cold here. 10:25 and it is -8 on the back porch. I just filled the boiler for the night. There is a call for heat from 3 zones at the same time. The Wood Gun will be working overtime tonight. Straight White Ash. Burn chamber is packed. With these temps I will be lucky if it makes it through 7 hours. Just enough to get some good shut eye. For an idea how much wood that is. The wood chamber on the boiler is 6.5 cubic feet. So when I pack it, it is probably 85% full. Space at the back and in between splits, etc. So 85% of 6.5 cu. ft. is roughly 5.5 cu.ft. of wood in 7 hours. That'll cook some marshmallows for ya!
Minus 24c=Minus 11f here right now and coaling down the Elm rounds and fillers that i threw in lastnite Supposed to go way up tomorrow then cold again by weekend and looks like March temps starting early next week for as far as i can see on the weather site Terry
-29 C here this a.m. . Supposed to warm up to -7 C today and then moderate alittle during the daytime, but still cold overnight on the weekend. Next week supposed to be better.
-16 on the back porch right now. The boiler is running great on straight White Ash. I happened to wake up at 4;45 and came down and let the dogs out and through some more wood in. It had a nice thick bed of glowing hot coals and a couple of splits left that were burned half way through. Very pleased with its performance during a winter like this!
It is a balmy +16f here this morning! I can't recall an over nite low this warm in a long long time! Still not going to get above freezing though. Ted
Maybe I should not have been so vague. "Little Shop of Horrors' had a beast in it named Seymour and it keep saying "feed me, feed me". Maybe it was not that funny.
It was so cold here this morning that a rooster came out of the barn with a Capon ,with a cape on ! -24 Burnin' load after load of beech and Kittanning seam coal. Dam near watch spilts fly out the chimney at this rate !
This storm keeps tracking inland, the image 33904 was saved at 9:04 a.m. this morning, image number 1032 was save at 10:32 a.m. this morning. We'll see what the next update is.
At the rate that track is changing, it's getting close to us. I could do without it. Loon, we were -21 F at 4 AM here. COLD. It feels balmy now...just walked 1/2 mile without gloves. The first sunny day above freezing is going to be suntan/bathing suit weather.
4pm National Weather Service update has the lower Hudson Valley getting 12-16 inches of snow. It keeps getting higher.
I'm hoping we don't get any in the St. Lawrence River area where I am. I'm hoping the Adirondacks about 45 south of me gets socked so they can have the snow they want for their awesome sliding machines! Like my friend Woodlands on his first sled he made "while" back.
At the moment they're calling for 2-6 inches of snow for your & our area, I'm thinking we might get more. We put wood in on Tuesday night, I'm thinking we'll put more in tomorrow.
That's what I do. Stuff the stove in the early afternoon. It's nice working close to home. I brought in a few days worth of wood tonight in front of the storm. Still burning ash but I'm about to have a run of black birch that is coming up in the pile. Storm predictions are for between 6 and 14 inches, depending on whose report you read. I hope we don't get any rain or sleet.
