Welcome Emerson. We sell quite a bit of Hamers here in eastern Pa. We usually burn a bag or two from every few loads that come in and haven't noticed any change in size of the pellets. But if you have, I would suggest reaching out to the mill. Their email is on the contact page of their site. Send a couple pics as well as the number and date on the white sleeves of the skids. They number each ton so they can track it back to the date and batch produced. Explain what you mentioned on here. Hamers is pretty good about responding. Let us know how it goes.
I was surprised at the general length of the pellets anywhere from an inch to 2 inches but my stove doesn't have a problem with pellet length. At the time I was having an issue with the burn pot filling up half way with glowing pellets and running dirty which I wasn't use to. I've switched back to just softwoods and did a deep cleaning which I should have done because I had gone through over 2 tons . Anyway now the stove seems to be running much more efficient with the ash constantly being blown out or getting knocked out of the burn pot leaving it clean . Also another discovery was the secondary burn pot ash door at the bottom wasn't closing all the way which I corrected .
The Hamers I bought from Buckspellets 6 or 7 months ago we're no problem..size looked normal as I know LONG!! Burned a ton of O'Malley's last year and deff Longest pellets in the Universe... I have a Harman but these puppies we're a constant Snap/Crunch/ bam!! Plus as a side note, left speedbumps that felt like they we're welded on the burnpot..
Sorry I haven't responded - here is a Pic - a pile you would normally expect - and some "pickers" I pulled out of the stove when I see them....I buy 4-5 tons at a time from the distributer here and only buy Hamers, no other brand! they are store in a detached garage and restacked in three piles about 15 bags high. So they do get mixed up off the original pallet......but as you can see in the pic, this is not normal for Hamer's. The last few days they have been running in the stove without a jam-up....I still need to take these in to show the store.
WOW.... I have been burning Hamers for few days now and not one pellet even close to those... got mine past spring.. deff would call Mr. Hamer [ or your pellet dealer]...
The worst part is that these are just what's laying on top after I dump a bag in and I have found a few bigger ones, I just broke they up before I started my collections.
Yikes!! If you didn't say they were Hamers, I would've never guessed. Not sure I've even seen them even close to that length. Possibly from the beginning of a batch. I'd definitely bring it to their attention if it's causing issues with your stove. What's the chances that you still have the number off the sleeves? Or possibly a pic of the skids before you opened them? You may be able to zoom in and get the batch number. Good luck. Edit:. Just a thought... If you buy from a smaller shop, they may sell one load at a time. If that were the case, the dealer could check the purchase date against the landing date of the load. I'm not sure if the mill tracks the batch number by load but it's worth a shot.
Called my shop today, they will be contacting Hamer ASAP.....will let you know what the outcome is.....has been hit or miss with bags. Some are right one and what you would expect....others, not so much....when they are running as expected all is good and warm.
Just an up date the coupon is now $30 off a ton and is good till end of the month called my local dealer that's $225 / ton picked up , I now have room so I'll be scoring one this week .
Can't be selling all that much if they extended the coupon. Hope it goes on a wee bit more so I can participate!
Now is the time to unload as much as you can, only 2 more months of Winter . Time to move that stock .
If I wanna restack(too lazy) I could stuff a ton in now. But I wanna glut and go for 2.................. Gonna need to wait a bit. And no biggy as I got almost 2 tons of sets sitting in the kitty. Really only need a ton or 2 of shoulders to fill for next season. But at that price Hamers would be a nice deal!!
hmmm....are Hamers PFI certified? If so, less than 1% are supposed to be 1.5" or greater for a Premium product (well, actually for all 3 PFI grades- Premium, Standard, and Utility)
