With the family getting older and longer distance camping trips happening every year we decided to upgrade.

Big upgrade from our 23' bumper pull. It's a 33' 5th wheel with bunks for the kids. We're excited to get the camping season started! It may not be too far off since it seems mud season has started here.  We already had a trial run in the driveway last night. :)

The hill wasn't bad but this spring type mud at the top made things interesting.

Hey rdust, I have a terrific idea for using that camper. Just hook onto it the weekend of April 22 and come over to the GTG!

Some people call the front storage area a basement. ;)

Where ever my wife tells me we are going! :) Last year when we did a week north of da bridge it got the wheels turning. A few days after sleeping on uncomfortable beds(table and couch folded down) my wife said "now is the time to sell me on this trailer upgrade idea".

I think we'll make a few local trips as soon as the weather breaks to get an idea of our needs before going on any long trips. I'd like to go to the west side of the state this summer(Ludington area), my wife is from Kentucky and it's been a few years since we camped in that area so that may be on the list too. I'd like to hit West Virginia and the Carolinas in the future too.

It's actually bigger than we really wanted but needed to get the features we wanted. I wanted a 5th wheel for the better towing but also wanted bunks for the kids so they can go to bed and not have to use the table or couch for a bed.(same idea for the mornings, don't have to make beds before someone can sit at the table for breakfast) This way they can sleep and the rest of the trailer can still be used. Unfortunately to get this you have to be in the minimum of 30-35 foot range. I have a 3/4 ton diesel pickup but still went with a light weight trailer(as far as trailers go) so I can drag it through the woods/sand easier when we're camping on state land.(dry camping) Also going with the 5th wheel allows for a little more trailer length but the same overall truck/trailer length of a shorter travel trailer since some of it sits over the back axle of the truck.

Hopefully everything works out as well as it has in my head.

Congrats! That's a great 5th wheel... We can appreciate camping with the kids. We have a keystone travel trailer bunkhouse for 11 years now.

we camp usually in Michigan and Ohio, but venture out sometimes beyond that. Are you planning to do any dry camping without power?

That's all I had ever done before the kids came a long. The kids like campgrounds(other kids to play with) so we mix that in with camping on state/federal land. I plan to add and extra battery and get a system worked out for carrying extra water. Between the two batteries in my truck and two in the trailer we should do ok. I'll probably put a disconnect on one of the truck batteries so I'm not left stranded after killing all my batteries. It's also pre-wired for solar panels so I have to read up on that.

We've had our Sabre Fifth Wheel for about 4 years, we'll two of the same model actually. Lots of great memories and one scary memory where we rolled said first camper after finding some black ice on the interstate. My wife, three daughters, and myself were all completely fine and didn't hesitate too much at replacing the camper. Used the new one a season and a half and still love it. Also got a 1T drw pickup for extra uumph.
Happy campin! One great Thing about campin is campfires! Cause then I get to cut more wood

Sounds similar to what we do... Kids like the Pool or beach and we work in the stuff that's more romote, still fun for everyone. Actually have the kids on board with dry camping, especially if we have friends camping with us. If you want to dry camp at Hocking Hills, you can stay at my property for a weekend. No electric or water, but a great camping place and the kids will like it too. Lots of rock formations and hiking. Very private. Just let me know.
