Foot powered kindling splitter. Anyone seen / used one?

Saw this online today for the first time. Looks like a better way of splitting larger / harder pieces indoors or with less effort.

Interesting, but not much stroke to that one. It looks to me like a lot of fiddling to get the length right, then you need to reset for the next split you want to reduce to kindling.

 

Good point Oldman47. Looks pretty fiddly. Maybe only useful in certain situations. Strange how we over complicate things.

I like the concept, but sometimes in the quest to build a better mouse trap, you just end up with something more complicated, not better. To my mind, that's where this went. I'm fat for my height but even easy to split wood needs a quick force, not a slow step on it force (in my opinion). I'm sure if you kicked it like a motorcycle it would work well, but ouch on the foot or knees before too long. My 2 cents.

I've seen a kindling splitter on facebook that is like a framed cylinder, with an axe head type thing facing upwards, and you use a hammer. It seemed like a good dedicated kindling splitter.

 

Yep, I've got one of those. A kindling cracker. Very good for splitting on the go in a more confined area.

 

What does that mean? Is that like talking about spinning the crank to start a car? My bike, and the last several of them, do not even have a kick starter any more than my car has a crank.

 

I had motorbikes when I was younger, and they were kick start, which was mid to late 1980's. But surely you understand the point I was making? Or did you not know bikes older than yours had a kick start foot lever, and needed a swift kick to make them fire?
