Not locust. Looks a bit like hickory but not really right for that either.

I haven't split any of it yet, but will run a piece across the splitter tomorrow, photograph it and give a sniff.
My son-in-law works for a land clearing company and brought a stack of logs over. More than likely it didn't come from a yard. He did say there was a locus log in the stack.

Not sure what it is but am sure it is very hard wood and no doubt super heavy.

honey locust. seems like it takes 2 years to properly season. split it smaller than usual and stack it up off the ground cause it has a sweet flavor and the bugs love it.

The more I look the more I agree with thornless honey locust. I've cut enough limbs off of ours to say the wood looks awfully close. It is the bark that's throwing me off.

Thanks all. I do believe I am dealing with Honey Locus
That was my next question. I started my 3 year plan today. Split a good bit of oak and stacked it in the barn. I put the 3 rounds of locus with the oak. Can't wait toburn that oak in 3 years.
It really didn't have much odor. A slight smell of sweetness. Here is the split picture

You should. It's much higher in BTUs than any oak. I mean oak is great, but locust is better.
