I wish I had a bit more diverse wood to burn around here. Locust would be fun to try. Ive had a bit of pin cherry from a yard tree a few years ago. I see a few silver maples around in yards but they dont have a high enough btu for me to be envious of it but since I havent tried it I cant knock it. FYI I do know that not all maples are created equal.
Current temp 28°headed up to 33° today. Loaded the stove with ash and maple, received about an inch of snow.
It's 33 out now, we got a small amount of wet snow, just enough the cover the ground, the rest was rain. The snow line is just 5 or 10 miles north and west of us. Burning some Oak and Maple small splits. I'm saving for the good stuff for cold weather.
41º out, 72º in....supposed to hover right there all day, mix of cherry, maple and maybe a little locust to keep the house hovering. Happy hump day !!!!
Anytime I say maple it is sugar maple. The trees are dying around here at an alarming rate, oaks ash elms and maples are all dieing. As I drive around I see trees everywhere dead I just threw in a few sticks of whatever was in the stick pile to burn down the coals, this could be an all day job.
36 and foggy outside and a 'cool' 70 in the house. Just threw on some maple and oak to warm things up a bit. Weird winter here in RI this year, the extended forcast show we will be in the mid 40's for the next week with lows above freezing.
26 with some Maple and Pine burning. Schools are cancelled because of freezing rain. Wife and kids get the day off. They are
Upper 30's to lower 40's no rain or snow but stihl plenty soggy everywhere that isn't paved or under cement. I've been burning limbwood from a maple cleanup down the street that the tree trimmers left behind. It's holding up surprisingly well and I hauled a whole truckload of it home, might as well burn it. Was thinking I should build a saw-buck for cutting it to length,,there's probably another truckload of it down there as well as a skinny load of big, splittable wood.
We had 33 this morning, it's 34 at the moment so I went outside to check on what it was doing.......rain so I'll wait and see if it stops. I decided to make a fire which will give us enough heat until the overnight fire.
Rainy, cold (38º), damp, raw - got a fire of pine going. Maybe not for too many reloads. And one split of the weird wood.
45f! Sun is shining bright and the wind is present but not much of a factor! I can see the concrete on my sidewalk to the house again!!!!
Sitting at +5 C (40 F)... Pretty insane considering one night we were -49 C with wind last week. Switched out the toque for a ball cap.
Well 2 very wet heavy inches of snow this AM... setting at 33 OAT ... house is nice... burning cherry birch and red maple
36* and they are saying heavy fog after midnight until noon tomorrow, I just crammed a box full of locust, maple and cherry into the boiler.
Well we have 30 here now, and we ended up getting around 3+ inches. It is a heavy snow. But not a wet heavy snow, for those of you who know what I speak of. The typical nuisance cleanup. I've been burning small splits and sticks all day to the point that the fire was going out, and then add a little more..... Mid 80's inside.
