I had a coworker years ago that was studying to be a doctor. He suggested that I let a plain ol aspirin set on the gums of my bad wisdom tooth. It helped. Not an NSAID or the enteric coated aspirin, just the old nasty tasting ones. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I needed it (despite the icky taste).

All aspirin, in any form, is an Nsaid. (Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drug) . Includes Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil Motrin) Naproxen (Aleve) Celebrex etc. Most common Non-Nsaid is Acetaminophen

I used to use aspir-cream to rub on sore muscles. Back in my wood cutting/splittin days. Stinked worser than bengay though(made my eyes water)!! But worked pretty well.
