So, my least favorite part of firewood production is bucking logs from a pile to stove/OWB length. Dropping trees, limbing, skidding, splitting, are all fun to me but my back hates bucking.

I was scanning through Pintrest and found these pictures:

Does anyone have something similar, or have some ideas? I buck to 24" for my OWB. I tried using the grapple on my tractor and picking individual logs up to a comfortable height to cut them but I'd always manage to get one of the forks exactly where I needed to cut, plus it takes way too long. Thanks in advance!

Yah, so for the smaller stuff I have this:

I'm thinking about the stuff too big to lift and cut on this. Stuff I need the tractor to move... But you do have a very cool inexpensive solution for the smaller stuff!

Some folks who do alot of firewood where i live just put t he logs on pilebottoms. They can be small logs or like 8x10 timbers. Space the timbers to allow your 24' length. Or double up to increase the height. A longer bar may help your back also, but i agree with the notion that long bars and chains are more $ and hassle.

I also am looking for a way to cut 24" wood for my owb . Can't buck off of a pile anymore my back won't take it. I too have been using a grapple fork on my front end loader but as you say the forks always wind up being in the way. Do the logs stay in the rack when you cut them or do they fall in between the uprights ? Can you post some measurements on your rack please ? I am quite interested!

If you elevate the rack some, and build either a ramp/chute do the pieces fall out, that should help right? Bending down into the uprights could be a back breaker also. Somewhere on the web a guy built one these on a platform and it all fell onto a conveyor......$$$$$$

Sorry. I just retread your post & I see you found a picture. Thought you built it. We should come up with some ideas for building as good as or better than the one pictured. Sounds like you & I are trying to accomplish the same exact thing for the same exact reasons!

Maybe take some of the best ideas and put them into one.... Hmmm..... Thinking hard now.... :coffee:

Someone, either here or AS, has a sweet live deck. I remember a charity cut video.

Hedgerow do you remember who this was?

Oliver1655 made a log bucking stand for our charity cuts. Not sure where to find vids of us using it.
I think Tim and andydodgegeek made one too.

Good, I read many of his posts from history, then the posts stop. I hoped and continue to hope that all is well with him. Thanks for the answer.
