It must come from the fact that a left turn generally crosses oncoming traffic? To those of us that dont do this as much as a carrier might, you can see how it would come as a point of contention. Hope I didnt riffle any feathers-one of my brothers is a carrier and I screw with him on this stuff all the time. He also tells me how f'ed up management and policy is now. The stories I get from him are crazy and he cant wait to get out which will likely be this spring.

How about this statement-and a real question, not funnin ya. The mail on Tuesday comes very late because Monday was a holiday. Wouldn't this be the same as a Sunday in regards to movement?

IF you ever get that delivery, I'm interested in seeing how the package is addressed. I get a lot of mail for a nursing home in Augusta. The only thing in common is the street number and the zip code. Person, street and city are different. But it happens over and over. I just leave it in the box and put up the flag. My regular mail lady has been ill and out off and on for a while. While she is gone, we get screwed with the deliveries.

I have a fellow Vietnam vet friend who works at a distribution/sorting facility and I have a nephew who works at the same place. They both tell me the same stories. They are both very unhappy workers. The fighting that goes on would get most everyone else fired on the spot. These people need much better supervision/oversight. No wonder the mail is so mixed up and the workers go "postal" wait and see if the whole system doesn't go outsourced. I was disappointed when Amazon gave most of their business to USPS. I have to laugh, most 2 day prime deliveries are 3 days, some 4.

Both times, when one of my deliveries gets re-routed to different cities, I always figured that the shipping label & barcodes had gotten damaged and were almost unreadable. Well, when they finally arrived, the labels were perfect. Go figure. :loco:

Left turns take more time and are more dangerous. Someone did a study on this a long time ago and got that figured out. Another, not so interesting fact; when they are reconnoitering for the census (checking out any possible living places that they might have to count people), they follow a line and take right turns only. They are not allowed to take a left turn until they either hit the end of the road or hit the end of their assigned area. Helps avoid double entries of dwellings, and helps make sure they see every possible living place as they aren't trying to look at both sides of the road at the same time.

Same thing when the actual census takes place. The forms and book are printed in such an order that you do one side of the street at a time and take right turns until it is unavoidable to take a left turn.

noticed it was a little warm in the bedroom this morning...68 instead of the usual 64...hmmm. went downstairs for breakfast - fed the pellet stove.. it took a little more than the temp would indicate - looked at the t'stat on the wall 75 degrees:eek: too hot!

OK, what's going on????????? looked at the room temp sensor probe - it had fallen off the elaborate mechanism i had to keep it on near the brick (a pencil stuck into the brick with the wire behind it! hey, it worked for 3 years!)

put it back where it belongs and the stove dutifully started shutdown / maintenance mode. guess i'll have to come up with a more 'correct' holder!:salute:

That is all well and good but the Postmaster had no issue with our people taking risks with our lives.

Our workplace address was changed by then town officials to another street. We had to close our access to the street where the box was located and add a new access to a street from the other side. This was done due to our original address being close to the end of a street that crosses Rte 125 in Barrington where many accidents (including fatal) happen. When winter hits and we cannot walk through the old access (now blocked by large rocks per town officials) to the old box we have to get in a vehicle, drive out the opposite direction, get on to Rte 125, go to the original street, check for mail and then make several left hand turns crossing traffic traveling at 40-50 mph, take another left hand turn again crossing 50 mph traffic and back to the shop. If mail hadnt come yet because Monday was a holiday and today was late then we have to do it again.

The new address was covered by a different carrier that went right by our new proposed location at our actual address. I wanted the location changed to the other carrier but was denied by the Potmaster because she didnt want to change the carrier and did not want to have the carrier make left hand turns. Needless to say I let her have it with both barrels.

As I was going to go over her head, I found out from another worker that she was retiring or being moved. Once the new Postmaster came in I asked for a site visit and they confirmed that we should have been allowed to move the mail box to our ACTUAL address and on the other carrier.

The address was good enough for them to have stuck one of their pink delivery slips in my mailbox which also had the package from Don in it. Oh well, we will see what gives no huge rush so I can let them flounder around with it for a bit longer. Meanwhile I will sit back and laugh.

I'm surprised they listened to you at all. Usually, they get their own way and if you don't like it, too bad. I really appreciate my local carrier. She is very courteous and reasonable. Everyone I know really likes her. Unfortunately for both her and us, she has some health issues which takes her off her route from time to time. When that happens, the screw ups happen. When I happen to see her when she is delivering mail, I try to make it a point to say hello and let her know how much we appreciate her work.

Oh yeah, I wasn't saying they were right turn down your request (see what I did there; right, left - oh, never mind :D ). I was just agreeing that they try to avoid left turns. Your proposal made a great deal of sense, someone just couldn't see it.
