I had a similar experience last July. I got smashed under a couple thousand pounds of wet industrial insulation. It pinned my head between my legs. Compression fracture of L1 L2. I was in a body brace for 3 months. The breaks weren't the worst part though. I tore several muscles in my back. They heal but man it hurt to use them for awhile. I started swimming as soon as they would let me and that helped me recover and feel better more quickly. I stretch for 20min every morning and evening, something I've never done before. There were several nights I laid in bed wondering what my new normal was going to be. Exercise and stretching helped me get back to my old normal more quickly. I hope you are able to get back to normal. It took me 4-5months and my shoulders were fine.

I was working alone and the guy above was watching over me as I was in the only place possible not to have weight on me. Foot was trapped and I just couldn't do a sit up to move the rails away. Ended up using close by firewood to use as a make shift cantilever to pry foot out. Termites had gone up through the center of the side post into the tenon joint of the cross brace beam. Only jacked the post 3/4" went it gave way. No outside evidence of termites on the post. They were behind the siding and through the middle. I guess the cross beams tenon tasted good. LOL Beam was about 2 ft above my head so it bang, down. Recovered pretty quick as I was back to normal day job in 2 months but had to wear on of the braces yet.

Everyone I've talked to that has had full recovery is like what you said firefighter938 . Doing all the stretching/excercise to the limit and I guess it's paying. 1st physical therapy which was 6 days after surgery was supposed to be an hour long. She quit after 10 minutes and said I'm beyond what they shoot for at 3 weeks so I guess it does help. She told me to cancel next weeks appointment and just keep it up as doc has to okay any speed up in therapy. When I told the girl at the desk the therapist told me to cancel the next week she said, "you're done all ready?" I shrugged my shoulders and told her I guess so. When I was putting my coat on she called her over to verify as I guess she thought I was lying or something. Therapist asked me if I do outside work or something and I told her with a smile, "You have no idea." :axe::tree::saw::woodsign::stacke::tractor::D

As TurboDiesel said, I'm not a good preventive role model but it'll be easier on you if you get it checked out if you notice it coming on than to wait for it to become an even bigger issue.

First time I've used a sick day or had an insurance claim in the 22 years I've been at my job. maxed the$3000.00 copay out, that's for sure. In patient fees for 3 days in hospital was $49,000. Not including doctors, specialists, xrays, mri's C scans and supplies. Not a hotel I'd recommend to put on your bucket list.:D

22 years of not using the insurance you were paying for out of your paycheck which would total.....how much? then 3 grand on top of that ---what a frickin' racquet---I get sick just thinking about it (is there a pill for that?) ps how'd your wife handle all this?

Never married so can't answer that one.

Don't have a pay stub here to do that math but it is an interesting point. All I know is it a a lot less of a racket than the taxes I pay that goes for the healthcare of those who don't work everyday and CAN. I saw a lot of that in there during my stay. They were extremely rude to the nurses, doctors and other patients. Very demanding as well, which is true to form. I roomed with one the first night and it was constant. Heard the whole story EVERY time they rang for help constantly to adjust their pillow and such. Talking with their family while nurses were out on how to sue to get "a killin'" Sickening. Nurses felt sorry for me and moved me into a single as I was such a welcome change for them.

What keeps me inside? The wife sometimes. The weather at other times. Sometimes my body.

I generally do not cut in summertime nor even late spring. I don't cut when it gets too cold; mostly below 10 or 15 degrees. Or is snow is too deep. Rain. Mud. High wind or lightning. Then too, I'm getting up in age so have to take things a bit easier, and do.

I got a notice today from Medicare about a diagnostic bill from the hospital. I had a cat scan done in September and the hospital bill was about $4700 but Medicare gave them a bit over $200, made them write off a bunch and tells me I might need to pay $105 unless my supplemental insurance covers that. What it amounts to is that the $4700 was completely phony. I see the same kind of thing from private insurance when my wife gets things done. They are lucky to actually be allowed to collect 10% of the value they would charge if you did not have Medicare or an insurance company bargaining for you.

Our "chain" of hospitals are "non profit status" so they buy properties and constantly rebuild. I can't imagine how much comes in the budget. First time for me being in a hospital overnight since tonsils as a kid. I kept getting bills from doctors that simply walked in the room and asked what happened.

When I first walked into the ER I told them it hurt in my neck and lower back and I pinpointed every spot it did with my finger,5 spots. Put me in a neck brace. They said they'd do xrays and MRI's. Reexplained the same thing to 3 different doctors. I had to ask them to x ray my eyes first as I work with metal a lot and didn't want my eyes pulled out. They did it and I was cleared. Did the xrays and said there was 4 fractures in the neck and acted shocked and he asked how I was functioning. I asked him about the lower back if it was okay as it felt the same as the neck. He acted like I never told him and all of them had been writing in there tablets as I reexplained each time. He told me they didn't check it, so back again. Results was the same, it was fractured too and I was a dire, in need patient. Double charge of x rays and MRI's

Totally shocked me how no one knew what anyone else was supposedly writing down so don't assume anything concerning that aspect. Computers have made it worse instead of better. I thought they were just asking questions to see if you were coherant and could tell the same story. Now I think they just don't know. I had 5 doctors on rounds charge insurance between $80.00 - $200.00 each time they said they walked in the door. Co pays for me were $35-$75. Nurologist Doctor was seen 2 or 3 times and he sent his Assistant several times to fill his quota as I found out later. Changed my whole idea of modern medicine. You need to be your own doctor anymore and basically tell them what to do and where to start.

Yup! Saw something similar in the late 2000's for me. The billing clerk at the hospital told me to not worry about the double charges on the bill, said its done that way for insurance purposes. I inquired with "Couldn't that be considered insurance fraud then?"
