31 Suns just coming over the mountain behind the house. Man,,, is that a sight for sore eyes. Nov and Dec living along Lake Erie is dismal. Very few sunny days. Once winter has everything cooled off the low clouds from lake moisture dissipate and we get sunny days. I think we are close. Another couple weeks and we should see sunny days quite often . Supposed to hit 43 today. A few chunkfuglies and a lot of coal will make it til reload tonite.
OAT is 50ºF. It was still 70 inside so didn't restart a burn this AM. Looks like I'll be cleaning the ashes out before I need to. Again. I'm not burning and wasting good wood just to have the windows open because it is too hot. Or try to have a smoldering cold fire(s) sooting up the chimney. Let the oil boiler do its job. I'm almost out of quick short fires pine. So my perspective has to change with my options.
71 degrees today, and there's another storm brewing that might be a major ice storm. If I lose power at the house the only option for heat is to relocate to the shop. Here it is another winter and no insert install at the house.
She was a chilly one this morning, -32 C (-44 C with the windchill) but now it's -30 C or-42 C with the wind. Yuck. Pine and poplar in the reactor.
It was 38 this morning with the winds still howling so I did some stuff and then started a fire around 10:30 a.m., I'm hoping the wind tapers off so I can go check the trails. It's 41 out.
-30c/-22f here this morning under clear skies with the stove full of pine and fir. Looks like we will be warming up big time next week so that will be nice.
Yeah I remember reading about you guys last year as well. We were mild here but this year its feeling like a proper Rocky Mountain winter. Maybe nature is giving the east a few easier years after what you had to put up a few years back.
We had about 3 inches of snow yesterday along with 3/4 inches of rain that froze. Went out about 4 to do some snow blowing of the driveway and the snow blower quit blowing snow. Found a broken belt and after a quick drive to the hardware store I got the blower working again. Did the snow blowing after supper and by that time a bunch of ice had formed so my driveway isn't in the best condition. Supposed to be warmer later nest week. Can't knock snow off trees either. It is all frozen on. Hope we don't get any hi winds.
We need the snow after none last winter and a dry summer. I was back in on our property I cut on today and the west facing hills have nothing for snow, the deer seem like they're enjoying it.
Back to below zero here once again. The two day break was nice! Kicker stove is lit at the entrance of the Dave Cave!!!
It's 40 back here in the pines, I just started a small fire before we do our overnight one. With the rain coming in tonight and tomorrow, it should be a mess around here.
26* and rain??? I just loaded the boiler with wood, I didn't look or care what species it was. The roads are going to be a mess in the morning, I'm afraid.
Current temp 30° going down to 28°. We saw mid 40s today and had some melting. Just loaded the oakleaf with the usual mix to keep temps up overnight.
The wild weather arrives in PA. After a solid period with daytime highs in the teens and low 20s F, we are above freezing. Had a good fire in the AM, but let burn to ashes (and ultimately cleanout) this evening after our all-day outing to the PA Farm Show. Rekindled in The One Who Consumes this evening... mix of euro larch, oak, cherry, and perhaps a split of walnut. Should be good for the overnight, and then a small walnut fire in the AM to maintain heat. Will not need heat through the day tomorrow as we are forecast for a high of 61F. TOWC was happy the last couple days just choochin along, but now is confused by the starts and stops. BTW... my first use of the word "choochin". Learning good stuff here all the time!
Wind and rain came through last night and ripped a couple strips of siding off the house. My son reattached it till we can replace it in the spring. Musta been howlin' last night but we managed to sleep through it. Our other son lives a few roads over and said the house was creaking with all the wind. Guess me and the wife don't hear so well anymore, or we just don't give a chit like we used to. Was in the 50s today and the backyard was grass and muck on top of frozen ground. Slippery as snot.
