Gorgeous unseasonably warm night here in the low 50's. Went with mutts, wife and son on a nice walk around the neighborhood. 15 houses away on the same street huge branch off a sugar maple. Thought to myself how I'd like to get that, power company was there working and I really have nowhere to put it that's not in the way of where I push snow, so sadly I kept on strolling. Get past it a bit and I can tell wife was waiting for me to talk about the wood like a lunatic but she spoke first, " you feeling ok? Why didn't you ask about that wood?". Well, that was all I needed to hear. Finished up the walk and headed back to the wood pile. Guy was just backing out of his driveway when I got there. We talked for a while, said it came down this morning in the 60mph winds we had. Took out his and his neighbors power and flattened two cars. Asked if I could have it and was told, "no problem". He told me how it was a nice healthy tree and that it was good seasoned wood:picard:, obviously not a wood burner! Power company chunked it up just enough so they could do what they had to so I grabbed all that. Guy didn't seem too keen on me using a saw so there's still a ton there. Tree company is coming tomorrow to take the whole thing down so I left them a note taped to 30 cans of influence asking them to drop some wood off at my house. We shall see if I have a surprise waiting for me after work.

Wow... All that's from a branch or two? o_O

How much wood is in the main tree...? Did you really leave a 30 pack out tonight with a note? Can't wait to see how this story ends...

ONE branch. It's a monster. Trunk is probably in the 40" plus range. My whole street is lined with sugar and silver maple all that size, it's actually maple ave. I wanted to take some pictures of the tree and what was left on the ground but didn't out of respect for the homeowner.

I did leave a 30 rack. Note said ONE dump truck of wood up to 30" diameter however they wanted to chunk it up. Hopefully I don't come home to a entire tree in my driveway! :hair:

Oh snap! I knew I forgot something.

No, I did. Put my phone number on there too just in case they wanted to ask any questions. Thanks for the reminder though, if I forgot I'd be running down there and putting the address on it.

I do want it but it's a biggun and would take up my entire driveway to the point I couldn't get in or out.

Well, the wife says there's nothing yet. Either they weren't working today because of rain and wind or else my plan failed and they got free beer. I gotta drive by on my way home, I'll see if trees still there.

I know. I'm like a kid on Christmas morning hoping I'm gonna get that one special present I've been wanting all year.

Unfortunately I will have to wait another day to possibly receive my present. Drove by the house and everything is sitting the same as it was yesterday. Probably didn't work today because of the high winds and rain, I'm no tree climber but I can't imagine those are good conditions to be 70 feet up.

Kudos to your wife for recognizing your need to hoard. She deserves a case of beer too!

Sugar maple is a great score!
