Madison Door Gasket

This is a new stove folks, really should not be having to do this. I wonder if ESW would send a complete unit in exchange for this one?

 

Sorry, I mistyped.....it's the door gasket that's tubular.

 

Understood, but no time like the present to learn how to do this, as it'll be needed at some point. It's not like you have to buy a new one.
Did you ever get a chance to check the screws?

 

What, a new gasket, or a new door?
New gasket, maybe......new door, doubtful.

 

I am not sure the clips are even holding the glass at the top. I don't think I can safely use the stove now.

Ah, this door setup is not like the NC30. It is like my BK and I find this little feature irritating as hell. The screws that hold the clips that squeeze the glass are buried under the door gasket. This results in a thin door and more window (aesthetics) but it also means that your door gasket must be removed to access those door glass retainer screws. Also, the door gasket must make a seal over the top of those bumpy screws.

Englander is pretty liberal with their door gasket adhesive but you could probably pull out the gasket and tighten those glass clip screws and push everything back together. Problem is that the rest of the glass clip screws may be loose too.

Ugh. This sucks for you with a new stove.

 

Whoa, do you even have top clips holding the glass? I see the bottom clips and see the gasket damage where the top ones should be but I can't make out the top clips. If you only have those four clips I would pull the door gasket out of the way, as little as possible, to tighten those screws. Then put it back and hope it stays put. No clips? You need clips. That would mean no burning to me.

The doors are not unique to the stove. You can swap doors at the home depot if they'll let you.

 

If the glass is retained, and the gasket is drooping, it still strikes me as a cosmetic issue. The gasket looks to be sealing, even where it is drooping. I would just try to push it upinto place with a slim piece of metal like that ruler you had on the previous photo. Careful not to break the glass.

 

That is the question, zoom into the photos; I don't think the clips are holding the glass at the top. The manual just has a rather poor drawing of the door assembly.

 

I examined the door closely, the clip at the left is not holding the glass in place, the clip at the right is just barely holding the glass in place. I am going to contact ESW customer service and send them the photos.

 

That would mean the floor model would have a defective door; which means that ESW would have to replace the door for Lowe's; so they may as well just send me the door directly.

 

If the gasket is slipping like that, I doubt it's sealing well.
I too, don't see the clips.....not like the 30 at all.
If you're missing clips (and we don't know that yet), they should send them and screws.

The NC30 door is the "right" way IMO. Nothing in the door gasket channel to disturb that gasket's seal and full access to the glass clip screws.

 

Yeah, but they will work it out. I'd carry it over to HD in a heartbeat in the heating season.

 

Let me see if there is a Lowe's nearby that carries the 02 model, I have only seen the 01 (smaller model) on the floor.

 

No; I did email customer service at ESW. Sometimes it does take a few days for them to answer.

If this has been loose for a while (always?) it could/would affect the way the stove burns...equivalent to a leaky door gasket...could explain some things...

 

Still haven't read the answer if there are window clips missing from the top side of the door?

Is the glass loose?

 

I think we can tell from the gasket that fell out that the clips are either MIA or the glass has slid down into the saddle of the lower clips and fallen free of the top ones. If that is possible then the glass should be bigger to prevent a horrible occurance of the glass falling into the firebox which should be under a slight vacuum.
