Bag limit is a much better solution.

I would say its a rather sensible ban. there isn't any other practical use for the category of gun other than decimation of large flocks of birds. makes about as much sense as using a bazooka for home invasion defense. I believe in the 2nd Amendment but there has to be some intelligent thought applied. nobody really should oppose the punt gun ban in the NRA community or hunting circles because its use is not within the realm of sporting use (no real sportsman should consider the use of this monster "sporting") or consider it practical as a defense weapon.

didn't know they weren't banned, I suspected they may be owned with a collectors license (like a machine gun) but I just don't see the use for them. I mean the dang thing is basically a FLAK gun for birds

You're talking to a guy who shoots predominately machine guns and destructive devices.

The 2nd amendment is for everyone. not just for people defending themselves. not just people that kill defenseless animals. not just for wheel gun shooters. not just for sporting clay shooters. for everyone.

If that's not your bag that's fine, but its not justifiable to say that nobody else should own it because you don't like it.

I don't think its right to kill defenseless animals, but in no way feel bolt action hunting rifles should have greater restrictions.

Not arguing here, just trying to get you to hear the words that are coming out of your mouth.

    Forest through the trees!
    Ditto and ditto.
Nobody who says they believe in 2a then talks about banning or restrictions believes in the 2a.
    It's malarkey.

Well I think the takeaway here is this..

We all have to remain united in defending our rights.

Sometimes the propaganda can muddy our perception of reality. This even comes from our representatives. e.g. "We need to enforce the laws we have, not create more.". can't be more wrong, we should be repealing the current laws, not enforcing them.

Propaganda is powerful and we all fall prey to it.

If you feel someone is misguided, we can't shame them, we need to do our part and help educate the community.

We're ALL entitled to our opinion, but let's not let it turn into a fight fellas. This is a great post about a very cool piece of history.
IMHO, it's not a gun that does the deed, it's the perpetrator. I think it'd be perfectly acceptable to be allowed to own one of these guns, but never to be allowed to use it for hunting.
