found bout 6 splits of this in my stacks. Have no clue what it is, don't ever remember cutting it. I got some wood from the wife's cousin when he had to move out of his house, it was probably in there. Bark looks a little elmish to me but seems too smooth. Grain is pretty straight, looks mapleish to me. I really have no clue. Burns nice though.
Hmm. Can you whack a piece open so we can see the inside? Kinda looks red oaky. Or just throw it all in the stove to get rid of it.
Split it open and get another pic, then take a sniff. Kinda like a scratch and sniff. If it's Oak, you'll know.
The grain does look like oak to me also but the bark is way off from anything I've ever cut. Could very well be, I haven't seen it all and never will in one lifetime. Next time I go out I'll split it open.
Sorry, it was a reference to a goof who has a huge you tube channel. His word for smoke is chooch. Should you happen to look for the channel, dont blame for what you find. It's kinda like a bad train wreck. Just sayin.
Grain pattern does look sugary. I have a lot of sugar maple in my woods. But the bark, maybe that piece doesn't represent the sugar maple I'm used to. That's just piece though, so who knows?
