Yesterday was my last day working for a company that I have been with for over 9 years. Long story, but a change of management simply caused 2016 to be awful at work. This site has been a great source of entertainment amidst all this headaches. Start my new job in a week, but plan to hoard like crazy this week as long as the weather cooperates. Sounds kinda sappy, but looking forward to hoarding and hanging out in the forum this year.
Too bad but congratulations also! Not worth it to have the added stress/tension along with your job's duties. Glad you're out of there! You're plenty young enough yet!!!
I know the feeling but everything happens for a reason. Hopefully it all works out well for you. Good luck with the new gig
Going though the same at my workplace, it's been crazy for about 2 years, and now the company is doing a merger. Real uncertain times and the morale is all time low, alot of really good people have quit......... It's one day at a time, I'm trying to hold on 4 more years.
We just went through the merger thing 6 months ago. Nice retainage bonus, but remaining owners became too full of themselves and are ruining the company. Put my notice in the last day before Christmas. Going to bigger company and managing two projects. One close to home and one in Southern Ohio.
Nice! sounds like it'll work out for you........ I'll work at this place until they lock us out. I've got my place paid off and no bills. I saw the writing on the wall a couple years ago.
The hoarding will be a good therapy session! There's never anything fun about going through job uncertainty, but it sounds like you're in good shape now! Enjoy the week to yourself, Woodsnwoods . Oh, get us some pic's along the way too!
I had the same issue over the past 2 years, left my cushy maint. job to be a manager. Ate up all of my FHC, play, and family time. 2 years was enough, I switched back to cushy last Nov, couldn't be happier! Good luck, and have fun in the woods!
Your post reminds me of a time in my past. I had an assignment as a department head for about a year while my actual job title and pay scale at the time was the assistant head's job. We had a major management shakeup and I came home to a wife who wondered why I looked like the cat who ate the canary. I had been "demoted" to a supervisory position. Sometimes a "better" job really is not.
Management jobs "usually" come with higher compensation. BUT, I found that you pay in other ways. Once "relieved" of my management duties a few jobs ago, I was happy to remain on the technical side of things in IT. Management- been there, done that. Not all that it's cracked up to be.
Yes, processing firewood is very relaxing. Dropping a big tree and the resounding thud from a good clean drop is impressive. As far as work, yeah, stress is no good. Whatever you can do to reduce or de stress is a good thing. Good luck with your new endeavors.
Absolutely. When the "extra $" if it's there doesn't equate to the extra hassle, then you either need to ask for more, or " declutter" and get back to more simple times. A smart employer will see this when it's pointed out. My company has had a trying 2016. As a result some key people have left, and there's usually only one reason why. As a result of this, our CEO told everyone will get a raise in first quarter 2017. I'm expecting a bigger piece compared to some people that don't carry the weight that a few of us do.
Good luck on the new job I have always found that change can be good. Like Bert I have been blessed with the ability to pay off our house land and toys. At your age trust me you have the world by the b-lls enjoy what you have and be sure to make more time for family and friends than for work. I also find working in the woods to be very therapeutic so be sure to make a little time for that each week. You sound like you are on the right track so again good luck and god bless.
Woodsnwoods Hope the best for you. I have been with the same co. for almost 20 years now and they do a lot to retain good people that carry their weight. Sure there are some things I can grumble about if I choose to, but I try to stay on the positive side. I was in management in my previous career and like it just wonderful, to just take care of my duties, do not try to climb the ladder, no thanks. My boss now I actually trained when he started and he and I get along great, he still calls me for advise on certain things. For the most part, at the end of the day or week I can just leave it behind, unlike my management job. I deal with a lot of people day in and day out so when I can get out in the woods, just me and the saw.....yea baby.
Sorry to hear about your previous job. Happens more often than you think with the amount of mergers and buyouts happening. Good news is you found another job and had a forum with great people to help you through some tough times. Now get out there and hoard away. Make sure to show pictures of the loads of wood you get.
Thank you all for the support. I am happy overall. I manage large power projects for a living. I am now with a much larger firm that looks to be promising. Getting a few honey do items done and off to the woods I go. Good companies are getting harder to find, but I always can find my chainsaw
Good luck Woodsnwoods as this can be a stressful time. Glad you have the wood cutting to fall back on for therapy. Make the most out of this new job and a new start on the rest of your life.
My company needs a management change as well. One little problem, I'm the management. I'm glad you found what looks to be a better prospect! Enjoy the time away as well. Many of life's problems/worries have been worked out in the woods for me. Best therapy going.
