Hi Dennis, I was a member of the American Chestnut Foundation for many, many years. We have to remember that the Chestnut was a major component of the eastern Appalachian woods. It was used for food by the native people first, then the settlers/colonists, and of course wildlife. The folks who used the tree for lumber, very rot resistant, and fuel were heartbroken when the blight destroyed the tree. I imagine like those of us impacted by the EAB killing off Ash. This tree belongs here in the east and I hope it returns. But I'll never see it in the time I have left. :( . One last note, the sills of my house, c. 1880 are Chestnut. They sit on rocks a few inches above the ground and are still in pretty good shape. That's my take on this my friend. Have a wonderfull new year.:handshake:

A nice New Years Eve setting on the dining room table. My new candle holders from my Secret Santa. The camera flash takes some of the ambiance away from it.

Scotty Overkill I followed your advice and started a patina on the set you sent me. Comparison shot of the original color vs after. Just pulled out the first piece and set it across the second one that is untouched. I really like the graphite grey it came out of the dip with. Oiled it up and waiting for the shovel to get done! 20170102_193404.jpg 20170102_193339.jpg

cows eat grass, so they give out a much different odor in their waste. Animals who eat meat, well you all know that odor. :picard: Hate the smell of nursing homes that smell bad or have the odor of cleaning fluids that mask the odor.

Clemson, After the many shipping issues, I had to get something that you could enjoy a few times. Hope you are not a vegetarian! I am grateful that you are an understanding guy as this was very late. Happy New year!!!

I would understand no matter what you got me.

Nope no vegetarians here, I am even a hunter and try to procure some of my own meat when time permits.

I thank you again. I will update the thread again when we eat something out of it. Hopefully this coming week sometime. Maybe we might make us steaks to eat during the big game Monday as a celebration dinner. Those who may not know Clemson is playing in the national championship that night!!
