I was asking if it was a regular tractor radio that failed? I know some guys put car radios in their tractor but IDK how well it would hold up.

There are places that sell adapters for tractors so you can easily install any radio.

Can you make it voice activated? That would be pretty cool.

Not so much. Having it electronically controlled allows more convenient control placement. Making it more user friendly in theory. It might take time to get the bugs worked out. Early hydro's were a reliability nightmare. Look where they are now. The old stuff has its faults as well. But it beat the heck out of doing it by hand.

I was thinking voice activated would be cool. But just hope it works better than voice texting.

The guys say the downfall to the hose and valves is obviously the extra heat in the cab. Down here on 105F days the AC in stuff can barely keep up and that extra heat load in the cab doesn't help.

With snow coming, I have to take the canopy down since I have no idea how much snow and the canopy can not take a snow load. The tractor was under the canopy because I junked up the shed; so the shed had to be cleaned so there was room for the tractor; which was the main reason for building the shed in the first place, storage for the tractor. Anyway, to get to the point of this comment after going around the bush a couple of times, when I went to start the Old Girl, she started after just a few cranks of the engine after having sat for a month; of course it is not that cold here today (I have a magnetic heater for the oil pan for when it is really cold). I switched to the standard plugs and went to solid copper core ignition wires which is needed on these old tractors. She is still the original six volts and starts and runs just fine so that is the way she will stay. She is an old tractor and there may be better but having a tractor has saved me a lot of work.

Owner of the farm I grew up on was a red tractor guy. His crown jewel was a 966 Hydro that he just kept rebuilding. Expensive as all get out to rebuild it each time, every 10 years or so but he loved that tractor above all others.

That's too bad. Because if you really understand the tech and how to use the diagnostic tools, you can get to the root of a problem pretty darn quick. Everybody who works on anything wants to stick to the familiar.

There was a time when the 4010 was the big dog on campus. Nowadays the farmers kid gets to rake hay and jockey wagons with them.

Ever try a 8 volt battery, amazing what 2 volts can do.

It's hard for them to work on one when the service manual says to see your dealer. But ya overall it's what your use to. The young guys will pick it up quicker.

    I'll pass on the 4010. Wouldn't mind a 3020 though.

No; the last battery came from Advance Auto a few years ago; they still had six volts. Yes, 2 extra volts would turn the starter a bit faster and probably would not cause any problems. Still, she turns over just fine with the six volts so for now I will stay there until I can not get six volt batteries.

There will always be some form of 6 volt I am sure. might be golf cart batteries but you will be able to get them, 6v and 8v are both common golf cart batteries. Huge compared to automotive batteries though.

You'd want my grandfathers 4010 (it ain't anywhere near stock, :dex:. Has international "turbo" decals on the side. ) and the 3020 (diesel, narrow front) was my favorite wagon runner and for towing the gang mowers down the airstrip.

I wish I had my tractor at the house!! I'd drive it around in the ice, I'd. Blade around some snow just to say I did it once in my life and pretend to do it like you guys up north!

Clem all you'd do is tear up the driveway;)
FEL's are only useful for knocking back banks or making tall piles taller, although they shine on backdraging up against a garage door where a plow relies on gravity and subsequent shoveling

Oh , I haven't heard anything from ya and was wondering how you were making out. It's a tough decision finding the right one for your wants and needs. Been watching alot of YouTube tractor videos lately and have been impressed with the L series Kubota especially around 44 HP range. Good luck .

I ordered some of these edge tamers for the FEL to try this winter. They are only $45/pair. Seems like they should prevent digging up stone and asphalt with the FEL. The only downside is that they will leave a small skim of snow (1"). We'll have to see how they work this winter. We haven't had enough to plow yet this year. (knock wood)
