I bet those analog looking dashes are electric on a lot of them.

You would think with the older BXs having the hour meter and tach in the same gauge the hourmeter would only work with the engine running.

I've never checked the hourmeter on the L4240 to see if is key on or engine on.

basod Did you find out what size the tractor was at the dealer? I happened to think if it is an L3200 it does not have live PTO. The L3800 does have live PTO as does the L3301 and L3901.

Got busy at work and forgot to call pretty sure its a 3301 though, the taillights are different on the older models

On the hour meter discussion I know the RTV1100 at work rolls with key on I've noticed it clicking tenths when waiting for the glow plugs

I worked alongside a guy running a JD3032 out in the woods over the weekend. That is a nice little machine.

Can't say I'm 100% sure looked at way too many tractors online over the rainy weekend but it appeared the other model #'s you posted had screws in the taillight housings?
Could be I was browsing a different model/year

Lot's of posts on this topic. I enjoy having my little 8N and they can have a front end loader mounted to them; I don't have one. I would think that having a ROPS is important on hilly land. There are places I won't go because I am nervous about the Old Girl rolling over. Remember that you always pull below the axle with any tractor; many have been killed from pulling above the axle. I hate hearing such stories; if only someone had been there to tell them beforehand. Of course if they had a ROPS, then they might be alive to tell about not pulling above the axle.

Looks like the wheelbase is a bit narrow for hills; I still won't drive my 8N across an incline and a bit nervous on steep uphills; why I added the front carrier to put a counterbalance; there are front wheel weights for my 8N but they are pricey.

those bar's on the front are my weights. that bigger pipe is 3" inner diameter and filled with lead. it probably weighs close to 100 pounds and the rust colored small pipe is solid 3" outer diameter rounD stock steel. it probably weighs 50 pounds atleast.

Hoye tractor in Texas (one of the main supporters of yanmar) custom fabbed a set of solid steel wheel spacers that I think increases the rear wheel with an additional 8"s or so. I haven't bought it yet cause I am cheap and don't use much on hills. I think the kit is only like $250 though.

A decent, low hours (<1000), used L3301 HST with good dealer support is a WAY better value than any brand's new machine. Make sure it's an HST hydrostatic for what you are looking to use it for (you DO NOT want a gear tractor) and also make sure it has the SSQA for the FEL. Look and bargain hard on that if it looks like it is in good shape and well-maintained. You won't regret it! The Kubota L series is absolutely the gold-standard for solid, quality "compact" tractors. Better yet, find a pre-Tier 4 Kubota L series. Do not compare the Kubota L series to the JD "3E" series (e.g. 3025E, 3032E and 3038E). These JD's are "economy" models. They are decent tractors for the price point but not comparable to the L series. They are more comparable to LS, Branson, Mahindra, Kioti, etc. "price point" models. The Kubota L's are most closely related to the JD 3R's, where you will see that they are very competitive, and usually less expensive.

    Mike, the 3XXXE(3032e, 3038e, etc) tractors are comparable to the standard L (L3200, 3800, 3700SU, 3400, 2800, 3301, 3901 etc.) The 3X20 (3520 3720) or the newer R tractors are comparable to the Grand L (l3130, l3240, l3560 etc) .

You should rig up some sort of outrigger training wheels so you can "bicycle" Dukes of Hazard style in your woods, or simply to get a feel for the tipping point.

Respectfully disagree. L' s ars way more stoughtly built than 3E' s. JD E's have their place, don't get me wrong.... just not directly comparable to L' s.

Dollar-for- dollar, NEW, I kind of prefer the Mahindra line up. Their tier 4 engine without the dpf or def is pretty awesome, and their power and weights compared to JD and Kubota are very favorable
If I would have bought new, Mahindra or Kioti were my first choices. A used, low-hours, L popped up and that was that.

I'm not a Mahindra fan. I can't see how Mahindra is smart enough to make an engine meet tier 4 without DPF when Kubota, JD, and Yanmar(probably the top 3 small diesel engine makers) can't. I have a feeling Mahindra may be pulling a Volkswagen to pass emissions.

Maybe. My wife just turned in her VW TDI and bought a Subaru, so I'm plenty skeptical.

I found some ROPS for my 8N. They are sitting in Penn. and I was told by Fasternel that the shipping would be $125.00. I forget the cost of the ROPS; $200 I think. So, even though they are there, I can't get them.

That seems cheap, even shipped to house!
