Morning, Current temp 33° going up to 36° today with snow sleet and freezing rain. Loaded the oakleaf with ash birch and maple.
45º outside with a steady rain, heading toward 50º at noon then steady downturn from there. I'll wait for a reload until this evening since I won't be home to put another log on the fire for my bride.
It's 35 this morning with another load of Cherry going, only one rack of Cherry left inside before we move on to Sugar Maple,Beech and even some Ash.
I shut the Greedy Hungry Beast down last nite when I got home from the workhouse. Temps in the lower 50's with drizzle and heavy fog but falling tonite.
It's been fairly warm for a few days, so I decided to do an experiment. Lit up the DV heater back in the laundry room to see if it could hold the IAT at a comfy level w/o burning the 30. Only had 3 fires since doing that. Last nights was 5 splits of Maple, and I usually load 8-9-10 overnight. Still 70 IAT this am, so no fire until this afternoon about 3-3:30 with just a few small pieces of Pine boards from the shop. House is still 72. Burning a little NG isn't so bad........is it? Forecast is still saying we're gonna' get cold, so the heater will just stay on......maybe for the rest of the winter. We'll see what the next bill is before making that call. I never put the b-vent elbows in the wall furnace flue when that got redone, so that's been outta' commission for several years (it was a good excuse to go all in on the wood burning thing). Elbows have been ordered and they'll get installed ASAP so I can see how that thing runs. It's been so long, but I seem to remember the blower being pretty loud.
Suppose to get down to the teens tonight..real cold by our standards. Broke into the Black Locust stack that's just a little over a year split and stacked..Was not sure if it was seasoned enough to burn yet but I have been wanting to burn some to see what the hype is all about so i took a few smaller splits out of the covered stack. Its burning nicely over a Doug Fir coal bed
Nope... I'm a transplant to the G-burg area and I believe Dave is a transplant from the area. Still, it's fun having small world experiences!
pizzin' a heavy mist with temps falling, down to upper 30's and breezy, looking at upper teens/lower twenties in the morning. I'll be throwing some locust and hickory into the mix tomorrow.
Thats cold saskwoodburner. We are -27c/-16.5f right now and think it will probably get a bit colder than -30c tonight. Furnace came on due to the lag in between reloads and burning down the coals. Im off to do my overnight reload of larch and birch.
Sitting at -19 C (-2 F) right now, and the wind is supposed to pick up later. Burning pine and punky pine.
That's interesting that you guys are colder there than we are in Sask. I think -23 C or -31 with the wind is as bad as it might get overnight.
It's been warming up the last few hours. 40° with mist. Supposed to be cold tomorrow. Stove loaded for overnight.
I agree. I think last night at -30c and tonight will be our coldest for this stretch and then its supposed to warm up a bit.
Oh, yes. Right now the upstairs bedroom is at about 70°f. Downstairs it is probably 75°f. And I have the stove banked down. As long as there is no wind, the stove works great. Wind sucks the heat right out of this house.
