As far as I can tell it's very well built. On the higher end of middle of the road stoves if that makes sense. I bought it used from a guy who burned full time for 10 years with it. Just sanded it, fresh paint, new door and glass gaskets, new air wash gasket and we were good to go. It has 5.5" liner with 1/4" insulation blanket installed in a exterior chimney. I am a part time burner heating 1300 square feet and it has no problems keeping my 1940 two story cape heated. I can run it pretty casually in temps down to around 20. Once it starts getting into the teens and below I have to keep it fed a bit more and run it a little more open. Insulation is whatever was in the walls when the house was built. I insulated the attic some and did the rim joists in the basement with 2" xps board. I wanna look into further insulation/energy savings this spring. If I ever move into a house where I can have a freestanding stove I would look into them again, along with Woodstock.
Current temp 10°headed up to a balmy 35°. This will help melt what's left on this roof before the rain moves in tomorrow night. Loaded to stove with more ash and birch and popped on the pellet stove for a bit.
Low 20's this morning with another dusting of snow. Starting Wed, the temps will be lucky to get above zero for 4 days. Hope there is no wind involved.
Hey Dave... same neighborhood in fact. I'm on Novice Run Trail, which you might remember is one of the side streets off Ski Run. I work in G-berg!
Nice to meet you. They were at 24 ski run, a ranch set end on just before the road that goes around lake Kay, nice neighborhood, they sold and built a house in the orchards in Biglerville prolly 12 years ago
Have to ask. Did the 2 of you go to the same skools at the same time (i did note the small age difference), maybe be in the same lunch room at the same time? Or even same bus?
47º outside, only supposed to go down to 44º, getting ready to build a small fire for overnight same as last night. Showing mid 50's tomorrow then we trend downward from there. Rainy and you can cut the fog with a knife outside. Haven't had a fire since last night and the house is 73º
We still have about 1/2 a face cord left inside and then it's the better stuff for the rest of January and February. We do have another two maybe four face cord of Cherry left that we'll burn in March and April if needed.
35F & a driving rain. Miserable outside. 74 in here. Steady temps till tomorrow when the bottom falls out. Finally gonna have to get into the Oak & Ash stash I think. Right now is pine, poplar, & cherry.
lol thats funny! I look forward to reading your posts when you switch out of the cherry..... I kinda feel the same way though with every over night burn post here Im loading birch/larch and in the day its always lodgepole/doug fir.You might have to open up a new thread titled "guess what Im burning? Its not cherry" Joking aside I wouldn't mind a few cords of cherry around the sean household.
Today will be mild but very windy. Clsoe to 30. Tomorrow is different. Snow starts tonight, wind continues and temps drop below zero for a few days. Miserable temps but with the wind and snow....well....not much fun to be had at all. Up to 16" on the way.
