I think someone on here has used tar paper (roofing felt) but had problems with it staying together. Even with using pallets for a subsurface, I think the weight of snow will cause the tar paper to split, tear, rip, etc. Oh wait a minute.....Virginia, huh? May work down there.
I suppose anything would work for you? Old sheets of plywood, metal roofing..... I just think that tar paper is a bit soft. But by all means try it, you would know if its worth it or not. Must be what you have? And in that case, it would already be covering my stacks!
Just waiting for the Observant Ones to call it out! Johnny, tell him what he's won! Yes, we do get fed a few small accumulation snows, and most times one Gooder one, but they don't stay long. Feed days are best spent wearing things.....
I thought about it before but roofing felt is just not tough enough it will tear if you look at it wrong . I might be ok on plywood or OSB but over pallets probably wouldn't last a year Roofers don't even use it any more , they use Synthetic Roofing Underlayment it doesn't tear easy at all , costs a little more
Roofing felt left exposed to the sun will be dry and brittle in 6 months or less. It is fine and lasts a long time when covered with shingles but is really not appropriate on its own.
That was awful nice of you yooperdave to post a picture of your family. But that's not much snow for where you live.
And look at the size of that round that needs splitting! Do you think I will be able to burn it this year..as I don't have much wood...just never got around to it this past summer....and all that!
Just thinking I've still got some rounds I can split and stack tomorrow . Backache over xmas from doing nothing
I just can't imagine how you could keep that house warm in the cold winters. The heat loss would be horrendous.
We can sure tell you keep them women chucklin' Honestly, they musta been related to the individual who invented "button caps" 'cos those are some impressive nails holding that felt on.
The racoons living in the middle of that round might take offense to the thwackage about to happen though. Where'd you get the captain's hat yooperdave ?
