Excellent, we had a snowfall a couple of years ago that we received 20 inches of the wet heavy stuff overnight, that was tough going even with it chained up.

Last year I never had the chains on and so far this year the same. I want to do some snowmobiling but Mother Nature isn't letting that happen. I checked the trail reports, they say we have eight inches in this area........ more like three.

20" of snow is difficult for anything to go through except a snow machine. If it is heavy wet snow, too much even to walk through in my book.

I agree. At that point a snowmobile really comes into its element. A track conversion on a ATV pretty much turns a UTV/ ATV into a snowcat.

My plans for cutting a few damaged Yellow Birch today got pushed back after I decided to scrape the driveway down before the rain so it looks like Wednesday or Thursday will be my next chance to cut.

Rain not too far from us now. I did haul out some more logs today. Only had to cut a few as I already had some cut. Then my wife surprised me when she showed up back in the woods. Gave me a bit of a time for pulling down a top but it was hung quite solid. I had cut the bottom off to where it was just dangling then hooked a chain on and gave it a pull. Made a nice crash when it came down.

When I was outside filling the trailer with wood I did a quick count, 67-69 face cord in the inventory. I'll get an exact count after it stops raining which will be Wednesday.

We had six face of Cherry up for shoulder season wood we're almost finished with, I'm not sure if I counted that.

I'm thinking it may be a tad bit cold for you on Thu......based on what I'm getting Tue night and the time it takes to get to you.

That should be close to or over a five year plan........depending on how cold the winters are. I usually try and cut 15 - 20 face cord a per year but I didn't make that last year, we had other things going on.

I think the biggest tree that is down is a Cherry so I better hit the hills looking for some Beech. Next year we'll be burning better wood this time of year.

Mother Nature has been a good feller for us so I think she'll put some firewood down for us this winter.

This was the birch by the brook that was broken off halfway up that I saw yesterday. The wife was on the rhino so when it went down she pulled it out far enough so I could cut it, we ended up with 34 smaller rounds.

The last two pictures are two different types of Birch, the Yellow Birch was taken from the property around the house, the other was taken from near the brook today. 102_0923.JPG

I don't know. I always called anything with that bark, Yellow birch. I see the difference in the color of the wood with your cuts.

Thanks. It's a smaller saw, a Stihl 310 but it gets a chit load of use.

Either tomorrow or Tuesday I'll take a shovel back so I can uncover a couple of what I think are dead Pines underneath the snow, once I get them removed that will give me deeper 102_0909-001.JPG access to this area with the rhino.

This area has enough damaged Birch (yellow I hope) to keep me busy.

Have fun and be careful. It is going to be cold. All of my trees under the snow are frozen right to the ground.
